Flying Wild Alaska

Featured Replies

With Alaska scenery coming soon... it would be neat to set up some flights similar to what they show on the show "Flying Wild Alaska".

If you hadn't seen the show, there are some really good examples of brave bush flying up there in the wild north.

Alaska Wing Men is a better show I think. They tend to teach you more and dont focus on silly drama. Mind you, I still love Flying Wild Alaska, Alaska Wing Men is just better.

I have Netflix only and FWA was the one that was on there, I'll try to look up Alaska Wing Men too. Yeah, I'm not much for silly drama, but I like flying shows better than non-flying ones in this case :)

Thanks for the heads up on the other show.

Thanks for the tip on AWM- I recently found that in my watch it now suggestions. I agree about FWA- I understand the drama is standard reality show schtick, but it feels to me like a better story could be written.

However, the show did inspire me to download everything I could afford for Alaska and Era Alaska airlines for FSX. I would like it if Flight could incorporate more of an airline feel into Alaska, and seperate it from the independant pilot for hire storylines. (for anyone that appreciates a good story along with video gaming, Flight is pretty an absolute mess)

i think both shows suck....lol

and FWIW, ariel should NEVER EVER be allowed to get her pilots license...OMG

haha! They really shouldn't let her out of the ticketing counter.

Haven't watched anything about Ariel...yet. Just stated watching last night because I was in the mood to watch something with planes.

Funny thing about Ariel. I just saw Flying Wild Alaska for the first time last week, and when I saw her I thought for sure I recognized her from a particularly memorable episode of the TV show "Wipeout". So I looked it up on YouTube, and sure enough it was her. Check out this link for the video:

I'm not sure I would want her flying a plane with me being the passenger lol.

LOL oh man! "where's the pole?" hope she's not like "where's the runway?"

but wow, she got across the balls good.

Why? She did what she had to do. And i HIGHLY doubt Jim would let his daughter fly alone unless he was confident in her ability.

Here is video

(This is the kind of drama I hate on these shows. She landed just fine, but they always cut it at the last second and cue some dramatic music to add tension)

And here is one of her first flights. You can see how much she has progressed since then. (reached video limit, copy/paste link)

I think the real question is, why did you post two threads about the same thing, two minutes apart? :Straight Face:

I haven't seen season 2 yet. Looks as though her confidence has grown, along with her interest! Still looks like she is scaring the heck out of everyone though.

Season 1 the show portrayed her piloting asperations as a mess: falls asleep the second she gets in a plane (which for the rest of us is the most exciting part of our lives I suspect), couldn't find the altimeter and incorrectly pointed to every other guage, wasn't doing her homework, rolled the elevator trim the wrong direction on takeoff, and was even being questioned by Jim as to whether her heart was really in it at all (more interested in shopping?). One would think that just being around planes her whole life she would have at least picked up some of this by osmosis, which just goes to show you how uninterested of it all she really is. I think her wanting to fly was more of the environment she was in, and also partly the challenge of it. Of course no one at Era is going to let her fly if she can't prove her proficiency; however, the scrutiny between the new pilots getting the shake down, compared to everyone coddling Ariel into the air is like night and day.

Of course, as in any reality show, we are only seeing what the editor wants us to see. :)

I don't know, but I suspect he may have got a little " All fired up" !

oh, I don't know why it duplicated, right when I hit the post key, it hung up. I was telling the moderator to delete the duplicate.
