  1. i know it sounds terrible, but they got what they deserved. it hurts you, yeah, hurts here too, but this is what happens when you try to make a flight SIM available to the general public, and merge it more into a video game, as opposed to a flight sim.
  2. does your MOBO have pci 3.0? if you only have 2.0, you'll still beable to run that card, but it won't be at those speeds, it'd be at like 66% of those speeds, unless somethings changed from pcie2 to 3 4.5ghz and a 580.... you have other issues if flight is not running smooth. i run a 570 , 3.0ghz i7 920oc'd, 12gb ddr3 trip channel, and have never had a problem with stuttering what so ever. a 670 wouldn't be a huge upgrade from a 580, and only a small upgrade from a 570. assuming you tune out your machine, you should get a 7X series next year. also, do you guys even run benchmark tests? like future mark/3dmark11? i dont have 3dmark12 because i haven't upgraded anything for over a year now. but they can give you clues as to the weakest point of your system. and they' make the absolute best systems on the market look like trash sometimes, and tell you why. also compares your results with other people and the same systems. or similar.
  3. you'd probably notice a pretty nice increase going from a 560TI to a 570...they're quite a bit faster now, and some of the evga stuff is getting nice and cheap. $250 (american), which i think is around $150 cheaper than the 670. i use a gtx570 sc from evga, i paid 370 for it a little over a year ago....anyways, for 250, you'll get one faster than mine. and you'll play flight maxxxed and never see a fr drop. also, the 560ti is pretty popular, i'm not sure which model you have exactly, but i'm sure you could sell that for some fair coin.
  4. nice write up... in the 152 i fly, i lean til it starts to misfire, then screw the nob in til it smooths out, then an extra turn for good measure.... in the skyhawk i fly, it has an egt guage temp, pull out til it starts to spike, then put it back in.... edit: one thing i've never understood...in all the POH, and other stuff you read, and the way you're taught, AND on every checklist, they refer to fully rich as "full power" or "mixture set to best power"....the reason that don't make sense is, because of a long time of working on engines, building race engines, and drag racing cars(legally)...anyone can tell you, the leaner you go, the more power you make. unfortunately it also makes more heat, but you can compensate with higher octane fuel, which in turn burns a bit cooler to avoid detonation...i.e, which is why high compression motors use high octane fuel. heat is bad mmmmkay.
  5. i use a 360 controller as well.. the triggers function as rudders, so it works quite well. how in the hell could you fly without constantly using the rudders? anything other than straight and level flight would be wrong.
  6. flight is miles ahead of FSX. i don't even understand how people could put up with FSX's problems. i have a high end pc. its starting to date a little bit now, but still way many gamers and fsx runs like complete crap on it. i would average maybe 20-30fps.......while in flight i can steadily run 60 without any dips.
  7. the carbon cub ss is SUCH a sick plane... there is a company here in Wisconsin that modifies these to a stall speed of only 20kts!!! INSANE. (not sure how, but saw it on TV!! must be true)
  8. i would like to see, c172, twin otter, (or beaver) , some regional jet, and if they want a 'war bird' why not something different like a hu-16a ???
  9. ok, i'm done until alaska,
  10. hmmm....are you building a completely NEW pc, or just upgrading the one you have? are you going to use the same HD? anyways, i'd guess logging into your live account will allow you to DL and play all those things whilst being logged in, however, if you're not connected to live, then they probably won't work. you'll probably have to do a license transfer (like on xbox)... i'd email live support to be sure.
  11. so, i wonder what kind of hardware setup he has in his computer...the monitors (at least one) were touch screen...but looked like it was win2000, lol. imagine what flight would look like on that running through xfire gtx 570's :Drooling:
  12. Has to be, WOW! i mean, thats almost as good as the real thing! http://bcove.me/5x9w8cnd dude basically has a real airplane. what game is he playing though? FSX? i can't tell, the cloud to ground lightning was pretty nice looking.
  13. if its seriously another war bird, im going to delete this game off my PC...there are hundreds of games where i can fly some war birds...do i want them in the game? yeah, but not right now, we already have a couple..how about some diversity.
  14. i think both shows suck....lol and FWIW, ariel should NEVER EVER be allowed to get her pilots license...OMG
  15. i'm not going to buy this...but i don't think its a rip off in the slightest....i mean, they probably spent a lot of time trying to load weather stuff over and over and i can see it now "trapped above the clouds"...some mission where you descend through a storm in a little icon and have to land with 40kt crosswinds...that'd be fun, and i sure as hell don't wanna fly around to 50 airports to make the best experience. but thats just me.
  16. was wondering why you had a Doppler radar in your picutre! lol ;p
  17. i use an xbox controller, feels pretty good, its not a yoke though :( i have not been able to replicate a slip..at all.
  18. i'm pretty sure what he means is...when you're flying straight and level, and suddenly just press full left(or right) rudder, the plane stays level as it should, but the nose kicks all the way left(or right) then starts to veer back the other direction, as if you let off the rudder a little. anyways, if that's what he is saying i get the point, why would the plane kick back the other direction if i didn't let off the rudder? no clue...rudders don't act completely like they do in real life (in this game)... for example, i'll pay pal someone 5 bucks if they can preform a full slip descending at or over 1000fpm. and by that i don't mean, 'preform the maneuver and get the result'...i mean, preform it, get the result, and actually have the plane look like its slipping....it basically just doesn't exist in this game, and its a maneuver i use almost every single time i fly.
  19. well....20 bucks will probably be the price...my arguments for both sides of a price hike are alaska is way bigger, a lot more time...etc. on the other hand, most of alaska is forest and snow covered hills/mountains...pretty simple to just plant a random forest texture down, not that many cities and details tons of landing strips in alaska, hopefully we'll get a lot of them.
  20. No it can't. Well, It can "SEE" unlimited FPS, but it can only process X amount of light and motion...which comes in at about 60 fps. However, FR chance and drop can be detected by the eye at rates over way over 60fps(like several hundred), So if you're watching something running at 200fps, and it dips to 100fps, you will notice the chop. At a smooth constant 30fps, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference....it may have been a slideshow...but thats probably from the FR jumping around. about 90% of all video games run at a locked 30fps on consoles. Racing and Fighting games run at 60FPS(for a reason), and its almost impossible to notice a frame rate disturbance. Any source that talks about watching movies or games at frame rates in the hundreds is basically pointless, and refers to the 1/1000 people who could actually notice any difference at all. Heh, join the club...I have a pretty higher end custom PC, thats now highly outdated(1 year old ;p) even with its $600 graphics card and flight runs wild at 100+fps pretty easily...FSX, on the otherhand, runs like crap. never knew why (ran crappy on my other computer as well)
  21. its different, and i feel different, about an app (or game) that i pay $5 or less for...if i eventually lose it, it doesn't matter to me in the big picture....but thats not at all how live works....i can never log into live again if i want, live is just a 3rd party service that gives you achievements, and yes, while it is like steam in the sense thats its another party monitoring you, its the largest company in the world, or one of them. i'm not concerned with microsoft being hacked and etc... idk...after rereading that, it would seem as if your point stants, live is just like steam.
  22. Awesome... 77 hrs huh? YIKES! i remember when i hit about 37 hours and i asked my instructor if we could go practice for my check ride at 40 hrs....thats when he told me "you don't expect to get your license at 40 hrs do you? most people take at least 50 hrs, many people take many many more, 60-70 hrs plus".....of course i freaked out and insisted that i feel i'm ready...he laughed and we went out and practiced some....i left for my check ride at 41hrs....came back from it as a private pilot at 43 hours....so i was 3 hours over what i planned, but damn it, i did it way sooner than i 'suddenly' thought it might take.
  23. i'd say pardon my coarse language, but i just won't use it... steam sucks. you don't even "own" the game...in order to play the game you paid for, you have to open a 3rd party program, and run it through their program....sure you can run it offline and all that, but if i spend money on a game, i want it fully accessible by me, without someone else monitoring it, or anything else...i don't want to have to even update steam to play my games, and such....no clue why anyone is ok with this. also, their customer support blows, as you are about to find out.
  24. idk, i doubt hackers would take an interest in flight. and technically speaking, you could make an RV a lot faster in RL if you wanted....throw a turbo on there, some ridic prop,. gut the plane, chop...probably hit 300kts+ with those mods.
