April 6, 201214 yr Which one is better? Also, when you get DLC from steam does it give you the code to redeem like the beta?
April 6, 201214 yr I am having problem downloading the DLC from Stream. Still awaiting on support to help me. I also hear that it can take several days for a response from them. So I would go for Live right now. EDIT. I just managed to get the redeem code. I had to search for Flight in the Stream app. When I clicked on play, then it said I already bought it. Then they gave the redeem codes and I had to enter them in LIVE.
April 6, 201214 yr It's exactly like the codes for the Beta. Buying DLC from Steam just gets you a LIVE token for that content, exactly like getting a handout from the developers! If you didn't write the code down after the purchase, you can find them by going to your Steam library, right clicking Flight, and looking for an entry about a CD Key. That should have a list of your download tokens.
April 6, 201214 yr What exactly is Steam? www.steampowered.com I would try to explain, but the site will do a better job! :Just Kidding: <---------------> Mike Murawski
April 7, 201214 yr i'd say pardon my coarse language, but i just won't use it... steam sucks. you don't even "own" the game...in order to play the game you paid for, you have to open a 3rd party program, and run it through their program....sure you can run it offline and all that, but if i spend money on a game, i want it fully accessible by me, without someone else monitoring it, or anything else...i don't want to have to even update steam to play my games, and such....no clue why anyone is ok with this. also, their customer support blows, as you are about to find out.

Thats how Live works. Its how almost all games will be in the near future. Its a way of combating piracy. I have been using Steam for years since it first came out for HL2 and I have not many problems. Sometimes it would take a little time to unlock a popular game on release day, and I even had my account stolen once, but there support fixed that. The thing with software now is nobody owns it. Apps on your phone? Your renting them. Games on your PC? Your leasing them. Its just the way it is. You no longer own software. Even most DVD's you buy on a store shelf will install Live or Steam or whatever software they are hooked up with. The ones I cant stand are Ubisoft's that wont allow you to play off-line, and if your internet drops out when playing, it kicks you out of the game. Thats just going way too far. April 7, 201214 yr Commercial Member Steam is amazing, thanks to it I don't have to look for stupid installer files or CD's every time I want to reinstall any product, but I can just log in my steam account, and with few clicks it starts downloading game I want. I have tens of games with it. Live on the other hand totally sucks. Somehow I managed to make multiple accounts with same name, and now I never know which one I need to use for login to be able to play the game. Also, Live requires you to login and your game is monitored by them just like with Steam, the difference is that Microsoft support always sucks badly, and Live is generally non user friendly and useless program. It forces you to log in but gives you no real benefit, unlike Steam.

Thats just going way too far. its different, and i feel different, about an app (or game) that i pay $5 or less for...if i eventually lose it, it doesn't matter to me in the big picture....but thats not at all how live works....i can never log into live again if i want, live is just a 3rd party service that gives you achievements, and yes, while it is like steam in the sense thats its another party monitoring you, its the largest company in the world, or one of them. i'm not concerned with microsoft being hacked and etc... idk...after rereading that, it would seem as if your point stants, live is just like steam.

The entire gaming market has been this way for at least 5-6 years now. Microsoft Live operates in the exact same fashion. FYI, Steam is arguably the best digital game management software. No DRM restrictions, easy updates for all your games. The competition doesn't even come close to steam in regards to stability/usability. And steam or no steam....you're being monitored. No way to stop that....the Internet is open by design. Steam is not one of the largest companies in the world....I'd be MUCH more concerned about the FCC/ISPs monitoring your traffic. If you're really that paranoid, you might as well stop using the Internet now. I'm not joking. What do you think happens when you go out and visit websites? Ever heard of a cookie? I'm not trying to be an &@($*....but it's quite illogical to avoid steam because you're worried about being "monitored". I guarantee you Microsoft monitors a bunch of crap with their Live Marketplace. And I'd just like to add this...most people don't own anything. They don't own their house. They don't own their car.

Well, if you install Flight via Steam and use it, you still have to log into LIVE, so now you have TWO nannies monitoring your use... ...just saying. :LMAO: Fr. April 12, 201214 yr I am having problems downloading the DLC from Stream. I have paid for the Hawaii starter program and all of the items are not unlocked. My downloads are empty on Steam. I do not know if I need a redemption code. The whole process is very muddled and Steam support has not answered me yet. I was under the impression that the starter bundle gave me the P51 and the Maule and they are not unlocked. Very frustrating. I do have an email saying I paid for the app and I do have an XLIVE/DLC directory but do not see any installers or downloaded files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don Don Lillard
April 12, 201214 yr Ok, i went through it a couple of days... Steam did reply but meanwhile I could find the solution with some excellent help from a few nice fellows at this forum... Here's what I did: 1) In case you have FLIGHT installed, there may be a way to solve it, but I decided to uninstall FLIGHT, then, logged in into Steam and downloaded/installed the Free FLIGHT platform. 2) When FLIGHT is installed from Steam, when you start it from your desktop icon or programms entry, Steam automatically takes care of the process and starts it for you, yet the GFW Platform will still be required... 3) If you bought any DLCs from Steam, then login into you Steam account, then, go to LIBRARY and you will see your FLIGHT install there. Clicking over it with your right mouse button will bring a popup window with the 25 character redemption code. Press Play from one of your acquired DLCs and FLIGHT will start. 4) "Inside" FLIGHT login to your Live account, the REDEM CODE option is avaliable, so click on it, follow the instructions and paste the redemption code there... The Download and install process for your DLC will start and eventualy end with the DLC properly installed/available. 5) From there on the DLC will be listed in your Games For Windows account. By the way Steam support also forwarded this important link: https://microsoftfli...troubleshooting Hope this helps :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
