June 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member OK. I got some screen caps of the new intro video were they spliced in a few scenes of Alaska, including a NEW aircraft. Many of the forum members improperly identified this as a "J3 Cub" or a "Super Cub" but its NOT!!! Its.... Drum roll please. ITS A CARBON CUB!!!!!!! Why do I say Carbon Cub? Simple. I cant find that coweling on ANY Piper or Super cubs, only on the Carbon Cub. Here is a screenshot from the intro movie. Compare that with the Carbon Cub coweling, and the rake of the front glass. VS the Piper And the Super There is no mistakeing it, we are getting a Carbon Cub. Also, Cub Crafters, the makers of the Carbon cub are located in Washington State. We like to keep things local! June 21, 201213 yr 0.o That would be nice. Hope it's the free plane included in Alaska. Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets
June 21, 201213 yr Very nice catch! I'm actually unfamiliar with the Carbon Cub, but am frantically reading about it now... http://www.cubcrafte...om/carboncubss/ The basic panel makes the Icon A5 look complicated!
June 21, 201213 yr Somebody, probably RoboRay, wanted tundra tires. I googled for tundra tires, but.... Are those tundra tires in the top photo?
June 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member Ooo, never heard of the Carbon Cub, but that's cool! Brandon Filer
June 21, 201213 yr MV, you need to be on CSI AvsIm! Very good work. God I love the look of that Carbon Floater. Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
June 21, 201213 yr It's the Carbon cub alright. Not one with floats though. ;) Here is another shot of the intro movie (bad quality, made with my smartphone...). Look at the er... things between the front wheels which are pretty much like the (real) Super Cub posted above. You can also see that specific coweling. Look at the front wheels of the normal (not the floats) Carbon cub and indeed the coweling: Snipper from the internet: The Carbon Cub SS is a POWERFUL airplane. It has no equal in takeoff and landing performance. Take off in two or three lengths of the airplane when you are light, and four of five at gross weight! Speaking of performance, this plane will climb at over 2,100 feet per minute at sea level and still be climbing at over 1,100 feet per minute at 10,000 feet. Level off at 7,500 feet in less than five minutes after takeoff! Cruise at or near the speed limit for LSA aircraft, even with 29" tundra tires. This power and performance is matched only by the airplane's nimble handling and slow speed manners. The fun factor is off the chart. Whether flying around the patch, camping or more serious flying, the Carbon Cub SS will always deliver!
June 21, 201213 yr Somebody, probably RoboRay, wanted tundra tires. I googled for tundra tires, but.... Are those tundra tires in the top photo? Looks like it. Not huge ones, but still... You can land almost anywhere with them!
June 21, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Tundra tires are over sized tires, and YES, those are tundra's on the Cub. Carbon Cub is relativity new, and its a Piper Cub built with an upgraded engine, and made of carbon fiber. VERY light, strong, and climbs like a home sick angle. Most Carbon Cubs I have seen have glass panels, so that would also be a first for Flight if they have it. The one in the Icon is just a moving map. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
June 21, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member I honestly would not fly Alaska without a good GPS. The terrain blocks VOR signals and there are very few stations. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
June 21, 201213 yr Disregard. I thought the interior was the Cub, but it's the Stearman. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
June 21, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member That was a Stearman I think. I didnt see any cockpits. Here is what the Carbon Cub's cockpit would look like. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
June 21, 201213 yr Hm, glass, so probably no GPS. And probably no AP either. Heck, we don't even know yet if it has a VC...! EDIT O, that might have been the Stearman...? Hope so! Here is the default VFR panel (in real life, that is): See a bigger picture here (and much more information): http://www.cubcrafte...es#!prettyPhoto
