REX + ORBX + NGX & FPS

Featured Replies

I find myself flying the NGX more often than any other aircraft right now. I have REX 1024 Cloud textures installed and also use ORBX scenery. I was wondering what kind of frames people with this similar setup are getting. All of these at once take a big toll on my system as I assume it would on just about any system. However, flying into an airport surrounded by ORBX Scenery in the NGX with storm clouds is one of my favorites. But maybe I am being too greedy :Just Kidding: What settings if any would you recommend to make something like this a smooth ride? I use pretty modest settings for my rig. and my inspector settings are 8xS with a 2xSGSS

Thanks!!

Regards,

Aaron

I have a much older/weaker system than you and I can fly the ORBX AU areas with the NGX into airports like Cairnes, Melbourne, and the other mid to large size airports I have for Australia and have no problems with a consistant 25-35 FPS with mid to higher mid settings, but if I have ORBX PNW turned on and fly into KSEA I still get ok FPS, like around 20 to 25 but I get some blurry ground textures which I dont experience in the AU package.

Having said that, I can fly the ORBX PNW in any of my G/A aircraft and keep the FPS locked at 30 pretty much all the time and that is with Dense autogen and Dense scenery complexity and its crystal clear. The only problem for me is that I dont usually fly my G/A stuff, so when flying the NGX into a place like KSEA or KPDX I usually turn off ORBX and turn on my MegaSceneryEarth photo tiles for that area and get high FPS in the NGX with no blurries. In my case, I attribute the blurries in the ORBX area in the NGX due to only have 2GB of RAM, but what has always interested me is how I can fly their AU areas in big cities with the NGX into their large hubs and have no blurries. Guess the KSEA area with the NGX is just a little more than my 2GB of RAM can cope with.

Very interesting cmbell. I don't have any of the AU areas so I wouldn't be able to test but turning off Orbx I guess would be my only other alterative. Glad your getting those great fps into the Orbx Au areas. I am sure you have had some amazing arrivals in weather there,

One thing I've found that makes a big FPS difference on my system is using the Orbx Day/Night switcher in "Day" mode, which elminates the lighting effects in cities. They still look fine at night, but the performance is improved all around. That might help you if you're not already using it.

Greetings,

Several of us just benchmarked the latest nVidia beta drivers, 301.24, over at AVSIM's TeamSpeak community with good results. As I test many major nVidia driver releases, the settings you may have used in the past change in the future. Image quality varies as does performance. With the latest beta, many of us are seeing a measurable performance increase with our standardized synthetic benchmarking FSX tests and flight phase FSX testing.

I don't have access to that data at this time, (4am and not in front of desktop) but if you want to met me on the AVSIM TeamSpeak tomorrow I can walk through our pilots testing, results and how you can perform your own testing. I hope it goes without saying this offer extends to anyone reading this, not just the original poster.
