Matrox 3H2Go (3x22") to a 42" LCD

Featured Replies

I am considering trying out a larger LCD display in-lieu of my current Matrox 3H2G0 set up (3x22") monitors. I want to make sure I am not missing a wow factor. I have a couple of questions

1) Has anyone else made that transition in either direction - large screen to 3H2Go or 3H2Go to a single large screen? What were your impressions? Better, worse, different - ultimately what was your preference?

2) What is your recommendation on a good LCD LED that has quick response time. I don't want lag.

The matrox has been great and is great but my performance does take a high running at 5040 x 1050 resolution. To help mitigate the impact, I am considering the single display.

Thanks for your input-

I think a lot of people have gone back to the single screen for the same reason you are considering moving. I have the Dell 30" LCD and think the immersion is awesome. I have read where others have used a 42/46" screen for FSX and have been happy but I heard you can't get a full screen as the video cards don't support it. It is a cheaper method to go as the Dell 30" monitors are expensive vs a TV. The following link represents my favorite multi-screen/widescreen monitor website and you might find more information about your plans - http://www.wsgf.org/forums/multi-monitor-gaming/multi-monitor-gaming.

Thanks Jim.

I was just looking at some models at my local retailors. I am thinking Samsung UN40EH6000 (40" 120hz etc).

Kind of pricey to make the switch and I am really use to the 5040x1050 setup but my FPS is ate up at times.

My bigger issue / concern is getting use during general PC use and production. How will a 40" perform when I am use to have 3 distinct displays.

Something to consider for sure.

Yes - I previously asked those threads to be removed since they were in the wrong place.

Hi Benjamin,

" . . . but my performance does take a high running at 5040 x 1050 resolution. To help mitigate the impact, I am considering the single display."

You might want to investigate this further before replacing your TH2GO installation with a single monitor. I run an identical setup at 5040x1050 and don't see any difference in FPSs when an identical flight is run on a single monitor. I've tested this on numerous occasions and the result has always been the same. They say different systems deliver different results but I've had my results confirmed by other simmers using identical setups (in the context of different discussions in other forums). I'm in the process of building a new FSX rig but in the meantime, I run an i7 965 @ 3.20 GHz with a GTX 260 (nothing to write home about) and get, for example, with locked framerates at 30 the following results:

Using FTX's PNW scenery, Carenado's C152II, Don Grovestine's Victoria CYYJ scenery with fairly heavy clouds and FSX in full-screen mode:

- not moving at the airport: 28-30 FPSs

- taxiing: mid to high teens FPSs

- flying around the airport area: 28-30 FPSs

- approaching the airport (with airport in view): low to mid teens FPSs

and this regardless whether I'm using three identical 22" screens with TH2GO or a single 22" screen.

Like you, I've considered replacing this setup with a single 30" or larger screen but based on my tests, I doubt that I'd be gaining performance and for sure loosing on desktop real estate which I truly appreciate when I have a need to display several documents at the same time without having to 'switch' between them.

Offered as 'food for thought' with the hope that more users share their experience and opinions with you so that you can take an 'informed' decision.

Regards,
