April 22, 201214 yr FSX running perfectly after a massive uninstall/re-install including a number of FS-Add-on aircrafts e.g. PMDG, Just Flight, SimCheck, MyTraffic X, etc, etc and a number of sceneries too. Last scenery just re-installed was 5 FSDT sceneries.Re-started FSX, and instead of going to the default Trike, all it now does is just hang at the splash screen with the usual MS waiting blue circle spinning around. This is what is so frustrating about FSX. Has anyone any ideas what could have caused this 'lock-up'? Any hints/tips much appreciated. Rick Almeida
April 22, 201214 yr Possibly a broken logbook.bin (in My Documents/FlighsimX files). Rename it in order to have FSX create a new one. There's also a tool in the file library that can repair that. Hope that helps! Regards, Tom
April 22, 201214 yr Yup, classic signs of a corrupted logbook.bin. One should NEVER, I mean NEVER, EVER use the FSX Logbook menu to edit any entry there! There is a long standing error in the FSX logbook edit code that corrupts the logbook under certain conditions...adding a comment to any entry other than the very last one...editing a comment or an entry with a comment, for just a few. I use Lamont Clark's logbookedit utility to do any editing or adding of comments and this has been failsafe for a several years for me. Paul
April 22, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the responses, Tom and Paul. Much appreciated. Now, that you recommend it, Paul, I do use Lamont Clark's logbook editor, and had just used it to recover the previous FSX installation's logbook as I had a good few hundred hours in it after losing another previous logbook with over 2000 hours and not being able to recover it. But what puzzles me is that all I did was install the FSDT Coautl Add-on Manager, followed by the 5 FSDT sceneries I purchased when they had a massive sale. So, question is, would that cause the type of issue that I have encountered that corrupts a logbook.bin? Will try your solution though. Rick Almeida
April 22, 201214 yr Try an Alt-Tab to see if there is any dialogue box waiting for an input behind the splash screen. I've been caught with that a few times. Trevor
