fs2004 looks too dark

Featured Replies

Hey guys!

I've also posted this on my VA's forum, but I haven't received any answer so far. I've reinstalled FS9 a couple of weeks ago and it just looks way to dark at night. I can't even see the taxiways while taxiing. Take a look at this screenshot:

Doesn't that look way too dark? It does look like a texture thingy, I use REX with Overdrive. Been searching in the settings, but I haven't found anything related to the dark textures.

To compare I have another night shot when I had my previous FS9 installed:

Anyone has a clue on what my problem can be?

Many thanks in advance!

Happy landings!

I don't think it is too dark, some add-on sceneries are as such...did you try adjusting your monitor, or a 3rd party wx brightness/contrast?

I don't think that would be a problem. My day textures are perfect. If I adjust the monitor, my day textures look horrible.

Just note that the last shot is from my previous FS setup and that night look is perfect. I want it to be like that again. The first shot is just way too dark in my opinion..

Happy landings!

looking at the buildings outside the airport, they seem to be fine. I really think it is the scenery....try looking at a default airport w/ no add-on's

There are scenery add-on's which can adjust/add the light halo, the author of this scenery may have used a low setting and as such the airport will look darker, the lights. Is this airport the same as depicted in second shot w/ acrft lights?

Negative, the B744 shot is at EHAM. This nextscreenshot is EHAM at night. It is still quite dark. See the difference between the second shot of my first post and this shot. (especially AI traffic, KLM in first post & other in this one)

What OS are you running? Vista?

I could be wrong, but I think this issue (where aircraft textures are dark) is related to Vista, but I've never seen a post explaining how to fix it.

Read the post below and follow the link on the last post by earthdog. He had this issue too and claims he fixed it. Let's hope someone can post a fix to this issue

This is what solved it for me... In the REX settings, uncheck the "Pitch Black" setting and reload REX.

Thank you! This has solved my issue! I'm ashamed I look over this.

Awesome! Glad I could help. I overlooked it my first time when I had the issue ;)
