Nvidia inspector settings for SLi

Featured Replies

Hi, I posted this in the other hardware forum, as some part related to the tuning guide pinned there, but perhaps this forum is more appropriate.

I just re installed FSX after an 18 month Hiatus and am doing the usual tweaking exercise. I followed Kostas advice in the pinned thread and have some good results so far, just needs the final touches I think.

First question is: I have 2 GTX580's running in SLi. What are the recommended settings in Nvidia inspector to get the most from this set up?

Second question is, are the tweaks listed, the ONLY tweaks that Word Not Allowed would recommend using? I was using a .cfg file generated by the Bojote tweak site, and modified that according to Word Not Allowed recommendations. However there are some line in there, for example relating to the shaders etc that Word Not Allowed does not mention. Can i leave these, or for best results, should I only have the specefic lines Word Not Allowed mentions?

Hope someone can help!

Thanks, Mark

From another GTX 580 Sli owner (in London..), I just use Kostas settings at present. Let me know if you want a copy of my config.

Hi Howard, that would be cool, perhaps we could hook up on Skype ? My skype name is fsxfturner I too have used Word Not Allowed's settings, but it occurred to me that unless he had SLI, then his settings would not apply to my set up ?

Cheers, Mark

Correct. I have not tested those SLI settings, they are as per default. If I have time today or tomorrow, I'll post SLI results from testing.

Can you post your Inspector settings for SLI setup. With SLI enabled an AFR I don't see any drop in fps using heavy clouds and sparse grid 4x.

However, BP=0 equals spikes in SLI. I also can't get the Inspector limiter to limit frames in SLI. With one card I don't get spikes, but I get much lower performance in heavy clouds using Sparse Grid 4x.

This tells me that SLI works for Sparse Grid (HQ) settings. This is something I knew a long time ago. SLI did work well with heavy clouds.

All I need is to figure out is a BP setting that will work with SLI and no spikes. Maybe some can chime in.

Hey guys,

Just dusted off FSX and started playing again since REX Essentials was released. Must say SLI is working good for me. Let me know if you want any of my settings posted if anyone needs help.

Ranger, how do you know that SLI is working? I mean, I get 30frames in ORBX KSEA all around doing that, without a problem, with a single GTX580.

You are giving no comparison whatsoever between the single and dual card setup.

Moreover, SLI has been confirmed to be broken (eg. no boost) when in certain cockpits. The outside view however should be a fair amount of boost.

Using the nvidia inspector shows both cards are working together. I would prefer to use one card, but I feel I get faster performance with sli. Can you use the 2x grid sparse in non sli mode?

That is no indication that FSX is benefiting from the SLI.

I'm just sayin, feeling is no measurement.

Of course. I am using it.

Hi guys,

I'm using 2 x GTX580 in SLI and it does improve the sim for me. However, not in the way that I was expecting.

As most people seem to do, I spent a lot of time testing different configurations and in the end I have settled for almost exactly Word Not Allowed's setup (I think the only difference for me was FFTF @ 0.15. I got too many blurries at 0.1). What the SLI did for me is get rid of artifacts (black flashes, triangles, spikes etc.). When I have just one GPU running, especially around airports like ORBX YBBN I occasionally get vertical spikes, flashes etc. I left MSI Afterburner running in the background and found that I was maxing the GPU out, which surprised me a little! When I tested exactly the same scenario with SLI, both GPUs would run up to about 60% and I'd get no artifacts at all.

For me, SLI seems to make virtually no difference in FPS or smoothness (either positive or negative)

So, that's my experience. Obviously different people might have a different experience.

Word Not Allowed and Ed,

Both of you are right, after a week of tests using both SLI and single card (both with 2 screens), I also had no real difference in FPS, but did get a decrease in artifacts. I think I need to find the right threshold setting and I will be all set. I am going to sell my second GTX 580 since almost every game I have tried it with in SLI has no many cons instead of pros.

Hi there,

Please could anybody advise, I am running fsx system specs i7 2700k (OC 4.7GHZ) 16GB Ram, Asus Maximus Extreme Z motherboard, OCZ SSD, Corsair SSD, Corsair Force GT SSD, Windows 7 64 bit, GTX 580 x 2 (SLI)

When running fsx and pmdg 737ng / ngx the frame rate seems to drop especially when using trackir 5 and also FDC live cockpit. I have a lot of scenery installed and using FS Global, FS Genesis, REX Essentials, GEX, UTX but frame rate drops especially in virtual cockpit mode and when taking off and landing. Could you please send settings that you are using. The scenery is set to ultra but water set low s well as traffic set low. There was info about Nvidia inspector can you please send best settings or give any advice.

Many thanks
