Keeping windows in place on multiple monitors?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to find a way to keep various windows in place where I put them across multiple monitors, but when a flight is reset, things "move around" and I must reposition them each time.

Is there a way to do this?

Also, I'm in windowed mode vs. full screen, not sure if that makes a difference.

thanks,

Andrew

Hm, it works for me! In your ..\Users\YourName\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files (FSX) or ..\Flight Simulator (FS9) folder, locate your named-saved flight. For example, here I've used my SR22_TurboPerspective.FLT file. These changes were saved automatically after I finished setting up what I wanted! :Nerd:

FS supports up to 21 panel windows in total, and each one that you've defined in the panel.cfg file will have an updated entry with it's current specifications/conditions/position data. Here for example is a "Saved Flight" for one of my aircraft, with [Window02] (my radio stack) opened on the left monitor:

[Panel.3]

ScreenUniCoords=0, 1966, 2385, 5918 // total number of screen pixels for left/main monitors

UndocCoords=-580, 30, 575, 1053 // absolute size/position of sub-window on left monitor

Visible=True

Undocked=True

HiddenOn=False

ID=300

ViewsOn=0

Here is the panel.cfg entry for the above. Note that the Panel.n is +1 from the [Windownn]

//--------------------------------------------------------
[Window02]
file=AP.bmp
file_1024=AP.bmp
size_mm=552,1050
window_size_ratio=1.000
position=0
visible=0
ident=300
window_size= 0.270, 0.730
window_pos= 0.000, 0.270
gauge00=ESG3TPgauges!wincontrol_AP,  0,924,551,122
gauge01=G1000_Perspective!Garmin_MFD_Controls,  25,425,499,346
gauge02=G1000_Perspective!G1000_AP,  25,772,505,150
gauge03=ESG3TPgauges!wincontrol_AP,  0,300,551,122

Notice that the absolute position of the "radio stack window" is -580 pixels to the LEFT of the left edge of my Main monitor's edge.

For some reason, only some of the window parameters are sticking.

To try to describe it:

I am running in windowed mode, on two monitors. I have a large "main panel" on the left with a bunch of instruments and a small window containing an over-the-panel view; I have another window on a monitor to the right containing my Garmin stack, a tach, an that's about it.

Even after I position everything and save it (3 windows), only the main panel stays put; that said, the over-the-panel view reverts to 1024 wide and runs over into the 2nd monitor, and it's in chase view; the Garmin stuff on the 2nd monitor (realityxp) looks really scaled down, though the window is the right size. Only once I drag to resize the window a little do the Garmin radios scale properly.

I'll try to make a movie of what's happening, but will also look into these numerical values.

[edit] just found that if i run in fullscreen, everything sizes properly, though the over-the-panel view goes to the back so I can't see it... I'll have to figure that out or make part of the panel transparent.

thanks,

Andrew

Maybe you should have a look at the version 2 of fs9 Toolbox that I have just released: http://emarciano.free.fr/fs9tbx2 and its Multi-Monitor feature. If you are flying FSX, I may be able to make the same, but I need to know if you are interested first.
