May 6, 201214 yr Hi! I already read quite a lot about the ENB series mod and I saw many screenshots that caught my attention, it really seems to add a very nice touch to FSX. I also read that it may cause a noticeable drop in performance. Since my rig is quite old now (want to upgrade to Ivy Bridge this summer) I wonder about how big this impact may be. Maybe you can give me some advise if it makes sense at all to give it a try, here are my current specs: C2D E6850 @ 3.6 GHz 4 GB DDR2 800 RAM Nvidia GTX 260 896 MB Furthermore, I don´t know at all which steps are necessary to install the ENB series. Where can I find the download, where can I find a good profile for GA flying around the PNW area? Thank you in advance for your help! Greets, Michael
May 6, 201214 yr You don't have to worry about FPS drop, your machine is good enough. Amd I recommend you Sunlight Enbplus profile from REX. I didn't like too much "yellowness" this setting has, so I modified it a little bit, but I think this is the one of the best, because it doesn't makes the ground looks darker like the other ones do and the overall contrast is also good. But you should try different ones to see which one will match your taste And the install is simple. You just have to copy d3d9.dll, enbpalette.bmp (if provided) and enbseries.ini to your FSX root folder. Also, most profiles use Shift+F12 to on/off. Cheers, George.
May 6, 201214 yr Thank you for the fast answer! That sounds promising! Can you give me a hint where to download the main files? Or are the d3d9.dll and the enbseries.ini included with the link you posted?
May 6, 201214 yr All you need is already in that archive. Just copy it to your main FSX folder and you are good to go. But remember it's only for DX9. Cheers, George.
May 6, 201214 yr Ah okay, I got it! I thought that there must be some kind of main program and additional files for different profiles... Since I run my FSX in DX9 only, I'll give it a try tonight.

George, as a long time user/tweak of the ENB mod, that Sunlight one that Tim made is probably the best one I have used yet that had a palette. I have tried a lot of different palettes that Tim made, as well as some that users made and a few that I had made myself, but that is the best one yet on my rig, so a big thanks for pointing it out. I haven't looked at the REX site in some time and didn't know Tim had made a few new ones. Fortunately, with the sky set I am using (Pablo Diaz's sky set), it doesn't look that yellow and looks just about like what I see when looking outside. In fact I loaded a quick flight at KDFW, which is not that far from where I live, put in real weather from AS2012, and was shocked at how close the sky colors matched up :-) A big thanks for posting that link. BTW, I've been using ENB regularly for a few years now and it doesn't cause any FPS hit or instabilities on my rig FWIW. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 6, 201214 yr No prob mate, glad i helped. And Tim also pointed out that with different texture set you'll get different result. Cheers, George.
May 6, 201214 yr Moderator No prob mate, glad i helped. And Tim also pointed out that with different texture set you'll get different result. Yeah, I have tried probably 30 or more sky texture sets with and without ENB and/or ENB with palettes. In fact, about a year ago I must have spend a week or two in my spare time trying just different sky and ENB combos, comparing them to outside my house and comparing to pictures, trying to get that "just right" look. Ironically, it wasn't until I tried Pablo Diaz's remastered FS9 sky set for FSX, that I was finally able to get just about the right coloring and look with ENB, but without a palette. This ENB with my current Pablo sky set and Nick's sun fix, yields just about the right look without being overly bright, washed out, or yellow for that matter. The only thing is, that ENB palette looks bad at night, but that's ok since I can hit Shift F12 and turn it off and just lower my monitor brightness for night flying. Thanks again. May 6, 201214 yr Hi! I gave it a try, and it worked like a charm. No noticeable fps-drops and it looks just amazing! That really adds a lot of realism to FSX´s optics. WOW! One problem I ran into, is that it doesn't like my 2 monitor setup. Usually, I use a second monitor to display the 2D popups on it, like the GPS, the radios etc. When I start ENB, all I see are 3 or 4 black stripes within the cockpit, the colors don´t change at all. As soon as I disable this second monitor, everything is working flawlessly... The look of the ENB mod you pointed me to is really fantastic, maybe a just little to yellowish... Can you explain me how to change the color slightly? Thanks and greets, Michael
May 6, 201214 yr I have the same issue with using my second monitor, so far I haven't found a solution to the issue. I finally just uninstalled ENB due to the issues.
May 6, 201214 yr Moderator ENB wonwork on a multi monitor setupt . Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 6, 201214 yr ENB wonwork on a multi monitor setupt . Is there a specific reason why it won't? For a few months, the ENB mod was working on my primary monitor without issue. Then after installing a few addon planes and REX + OD, ENB stopped working on the primary monitor. I uninstalled everything that I had installed between the time it was working and it stopped working. Reinstalled ENB, and still had issues with it on my primary monitor. I tried finding a configuration entry for ENB that would direct it to only do the particular monitor, but came up with nothing. -d
May 7, 201214 yr Hi! The look of the ENB mod you pointed me to is really fantastic, maybe a just little to yellowish... Can you explain me how to change the color slightly? Thanks and greets, Michael I modified the palette via Photoshop. I can't attach the file here, so here's the link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/pz1sox I hope this server is ok, never used it before.... Cheers, George.
May 8, 201214 yr Hi George! I downloaded and installed your modified palette and it works great! I love that look, a little less yellow and very natural! Thank you so much for sharing your work and effort! Greets, Michael
