Lots of pilots of the PMDG 737NGX reported how hard it is to land this bird.

Here you can see that even R/W pilots have their issues with the ground-effect of this plane!

you cant really compare that to the simulator but really nice!

Nice video, but Madeira (LPMA) really isn't the benchmark for landings. It's notorious for variable, gusting winds, and the approach isn't exactly simple either.

The VOR you fly over when doing the approach for RWY05 really shouldn't have the name it has now... FUN.

It's a fun approach on the jumpseat though!

The Pilot may have been new to LPMA or not had a lot of experience with this particular airport. If your an experienced Pilot and know your aircraft well you can put it down just as smooth as this Pilot did. Probably the best 737-800 approach to LPMA I have ever seen.

Hey Ed,

Madeira is difficult because of massive winds. I don't agree with you saying this is ground effect.

Bert Van Bulck

If the winds are variable and gusting at 20-25kts, which is not a rare occurrence at LPMA, you won't be setting her down gently. You can try though, which will end in a go around.
