Partitioning Hard Drive Question

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I just finished building my first computer (especially for FSX). I bought a 1 TB Caviar Black drive. Is there any advantage of partitioning this drive? What do most of you guys do?

I may later buy an SSD just for FSX, but that is a ways into the future.

Thanks

Have one partition only for Windows. Try to get a large SSD for FSX.

SSD prices are coming down by the day and a 256GB SSD is now mostly affordable for most.

If I don't get the SSD, some advice please on if I should partition the WD Caviar Black HD?

If I was to get the SSD, would you recommend putting both Windows 7 and FSX on it? Or just putting FSX on it?

FSX on SSD

Win7 on HDD

If you do not get an SSD, do not partition the WD HD and try to spend a few extra dollars and get a dedicated HD for FSX.

Thanks Ben for your quick responses. Just one more question. What is the down side of putting both FSX and Windows 7 on the same SSD? There is room for both, but there must be some reason for not putting them both on the same SSD.
