May 7, 200422 yr Author >Can you please help?>ZA keep my networked client PC out of the door :-(>I went through ZA Help and read i have to add a Trusted Zone>with the IP of my client PC. At that point i checked network>properties of the client and the network adapter TCPIP has no>IP adress (get IP automatically is checked). Which numbers do>i have to set as IP adress and Subnet Mask? Can you please>explain what should i do?>BTW if i disable ZA my client PC come back to life....>Thanks in advance >>Luigi ;-)Luigi,You need to set static IP addresses to your LAN network cards. The one in your client PC set to 192.1.68.0.2, mak 255.255.255.255The one in your 'server' PC (the PC connected to the internet) set to192.168.0.1, mask 255.255.255.255Now if your internet connection is via a USB modem that's OK but if it is via a network card you will have two network cards in your 'server' computer. The above static IP address is set to the card that connects to your client PC, NOT the card that connects to the Internet. The following site should help with networks and IP addresses.http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/sharingcable.htmhttp://www.networklab.co.uk/cmodem/http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharin...nfiguration.htm
May 7, 200422 yr Thank you Vulcan! It sounds a bit complicated. For me.I checked my server LAN TCP/IP:IP Adress is 192.168.0.1Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0After that i set my client as per your suggestionIP Adress is 192.168.0.2Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0Unfortunately still cannot "see" my client. Here's the alert message that i receive when calling server from clientPChttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74857.jpgand my ZONES confighttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74858.jpgDuring NORTON days i remember i just had to type the client PC name(SECOND in my case) to make this one friendly accepted by server. Why it's ZA so complicated? Thanks againg for helpingLuigi ;-)
May 7, 200422 yr Author Luigi,You need to change the Asustek to Trusted zone as that is your LAN connection, leave the WAN as Internet zone.In fact you should be able to add the name of your client PC rather than specifying its IP address.Once at the screen you show, click on the 'add' button and you can select to add either host/site name, IP address, IP range or subnet.TBH this is the only thing complicated about ZAHTH
May 8, 200422 yr Thanks a lot for your patienceHere the zone screen as i can see it nowhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74938.jpgBut i still receive an alert message when calling server PC from client :-(http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74939.jpgWhat should i do at this point? Thanks againLuigi ;-)
May 8, 200422 yr Author Luigi,On which computers have you installed ZA and what are your settings under the firewall tab?
May 8, 200422 yr ZA is installed on server PC.Settings in firewall tab are HIGH - HIGH (just to be sure!) Luigi ;-)
May 8, 200422 yr But if i set TRUSTED ZONE= MEDIUM (DEFAULT) finally i can see both PC's without warning messages. Enough protection?Do i have to stick these settings? How should i fill advanced Tab?Once more thank you MR. Vulcan :-coolLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74949.jpg
May 8, 200422 yr ...and cannot download files from AVSim with these settings but i have to lower internet zone security to MEDIUM (a bit dangerous!).cheersLuigi ;-)
May 8, 200422 yr Author I have both zones set to medium Luigi and AFAIK do not have any problems.I run a full AV scan and Spybot about once a month and niether of them have picked anything up so I am happy with medium.
May 8, 200422 yr Yes Vulcan, with both zones set to MEDIUM both home network and AVSim download work OK.With these settings a quick test at Steve Gibson Shields UP! tell me that ports 1002, 1025, 1720 are opened and my PC isn't working fully stealth. Instead with internet zone set to HIGH my PC is perfectly stealth.Surely you're more experienced that i am so......i'll follow your suggestion: MEDIUM set is the way.Have a good Weekend VulcanLuigi ;-)
May 8, 200422 yr Author At medium you won't be fully 'stealthed' Luigi, in fact some people say that it is against the Internet RFC's to go fully stealthed.Evidently your PC should be visible to the Internet so people can ping you (amongst other reasons) but still keep it secure.Glad everything is working for you now.
