May 17, 201214 yr Hey gang, I received my new TM Warthog setup this afternoon, so far most everything is very good. I was able to create a profile for Flight, similar to what I had in my Cougar previously, for the Warthog. I have a slider on my throttle, which shows as an axis - it is listed as a dxslider axes when viewing in the software. I would like to assign either mixture or prop rpm to this slider, but Flight does not seem to want to accept it. When I choose the axis for either the prop rpm or mixture in the controller options in Flight, then I move the slider fully both ways, nothing registers in that box for the corresponding axis. I have tested the slider in windows game controller test screen, and it is working appropriately. Am I missing something here, or does Flight just not support a slider axis on a throttle? Everything else seems to be working great. Thanks for any tips, Don B
May 17, 201214 yr Flight supports two rotary wheels on my G940 throttle for axis commands. I use one wheel for prop control and the other for mixture. However, some other rotary knobs and the mini-stick on the stick are treated as buttons by Flight, so I can't assign them to axis commands or do anything useful with them.
May 17, 201214 yr Author Yeah, on my Cougar throttle it had two rotaries, and they worked fine for prop rpm and mixture axis'. However this throttle slider on the Warthog, even though it is an axis, is not responding to setting it as one in Flight... Strange... Thanks, Aha, I got it! I went into the configuration in the software for the Warthog, and changed the slider axis from "dx_slider", to "throttle" axis. My throttle is actually shown as the Z axis, so figured I would try the " throttle" axis since it was available, and assigned to the slider. I went in and set it for my mixture, works perfectly. I guess the Flight program, just does not recognize a " dx_slider" axis. Don B
May 17, 201214 yr Author Well crap, that did not work either, interfering with my new Saitek pedals which are on the Z axis, pulled throttle back when got to cruise and the dang thing did a barrell roll lol Well never mind, I was wrong - it was not interfering. Somehow in my control options, it had assigned the z axis for both the TM Warthog, and the Saitek rudder pedals, and apparently this was causing this conflict. Not sure how that happened, I cleared the setting for rudder axis for the Warthog, and all is well now with mixture set to the slider on the throttle, which I have assigned as a " throttle" axis to get it to recognize in Flight. Whew, hopefully they will stay that way, duh! Don B
May 17, 201214 yr Heh, I had some fun & games like that with the G940... Flight auto-assigned all kinds of things, including multiple conflicting axis controls, so the plane was doing all kinds of crazy stuff. I ended up deleting all of the auto-assigned functions and building it all up myself, from scratch.
May 17, 201214 yr Author Yeah I think that is what happened to me as well. All seems to be well now, just completed a job with no issue - greased that Maule in better than I ever have lol.\ Thanks, Don B
May 18, 201214 yr dburne, How's the joystick spring tension on the Warthog vs the Cougar? I found the Cougar to be too stiff so I swapped the springs with TM F22 springs.
May 18, 201214 yr Ah, hm, yes, I also remember now that Flight assigned all kinds of things to my Saitek Combat pedals, even to knobs and whatnot the pedals don't even have...! I also ended up deleting them ALL. Pity I didn't remember that yesterday: that would have saved you some trouble... How do you like the pedals so far?
May 18, 201214 yr Author dburne, How's the joystick spring tension on the Warthog vs the Cougar? I found the Cougar to be too stiff so I swapped the springs with TM F22 springs. Well I will tell you, it is still a little stiff. However it is a very smooth stiff - kind of hard to explain. The tension remains the exact same all throughout the travel, it is not stiffer toward the extreme than it is closer to center. It does feel very smooth. While there is a distinct feel as you pass through the center, it is not loose around center nor do you have than clunk feel one had with the stock Cougar. It is kind of hard for me to compare with the stock springs on the Cougar, as I had modded my Cougar with the NXT gimbal mod back in 2005, which was very much softer, especially around center. Going from memory, I would say the Warthog is not as severe as the stock Cougar was, because it is so smooth. But I did a lot of research before purchasing, and I have seen where some folks have modded the large spring to get theirs a little softer feel. I personally think I will like it as is just fine, once I have flown some combat missions in my other sims with it I will have a better feel on that. Pity I didn't remember that yesterday: that would have saved you some trouble... How do you like the pedals so far? Lol, no problem - it was not too bad, just a little puzzling at first. I finally installed the Saitek drivers for them today, who knows maybe had I done that first it may have saved some of that - probably not though... So far I like them really well, especially coming from the much older TM Elite pedals. The Elite's had cups where you had to raise up your feet and put into them - I really like being able to rest my heels on the floor and operate the pedals with my upper feet, much more " ergonomic" for me. Thanks, Don B
May 18, 201214 yr I finally installed the Saitek drivers for them today, who knows maybe had I done that first it may have saved some of that - probably not though... Glad to hear you like them! I also like my heels on the ground. I wonder if those drivers give you more control over things? Did you install the software (which is something else then the driver) that you can get for the pedals? As I said earlier I only plugged them in and I like as they are by default, but maybe the software does add some interesting stuf...?
May 18, 201214 yr Author Well the drivers themselves probably do not - except maybe a little more control for setting deadzones for all three axis, can't remember if I had that ability prior to installing the drivers - but the software does appear to - would let you assign things to like the toe brake axis should you want to, like key presses = I have not really looked into the software too deeply. I just ran the installation off the included cd, which installed the drivers, and then the software - it did not really give me a choice to not install the software. It also configures the software profiler to run at startup, I disabled that as I don't like software like that running automatically, if I want the software to run I will launch it myself. Don B
May 18, 201214 yr Author I finally installed the Saitek drivers for them today, who knows maybe had I done that first it may have saved some of that I think it probably would have - just did a job in Flight - yesterday, prior to installing the Saitek drivers, Flight was recognizing my rudder axis as " Z rotation". Well my Warthog throttle is recognized on the " Z Axis", so apparently that is where the conflict was. After installing the Saitek drivers for my Combat Pedals this morning, Flight now recognizes my rudders on the " rudder" axis, rather than " Z Rotation"... Strange, but glad it is all sorted now. Don B
May 18, 201214 yr Good to know. Your comments on axis assignments convinced me to play around with the Logitech Profiler some more and I finally realized I can assign the G940's mini-stick axis settings (little analog stick on top of the main joystick) to keystrokes rather than as an axis, so now I can use it in Flight. It's being treated as a 4-way hat switch rather than X+Y axis controls, but at least I can do something with it now.
