Setting your default Eyepoint position

I think I just found something a few people have been wanting....

 

Somebody posted early on about how the "InitialPbh" (Pitch, Bank, Heading) parameter could be added to the Cameras.CFG file to adjust your default viewing direction. For example...

 

InitialPbh=7.0

 

...causes your default view to be looking down 7 degrees.

 

But, a lot of people have expressed interest in being able to shift the actual camera itself around. This can be done manually with the Eyepoint keys or buttons, but I just found that the "InitialXyz" parameter can also be added to Cameras.CFG to move the default Eyepoint. So, pressing the "Reset View" button doesn't go to the "standard" position, but rather to one you have defined.

 

X = Lateral displacement (moving in-line with the wingtips)

Y = Vertical displacement (moving up toward the canopy or down toward the floor)

Z = Longitudinal displacement (moving forward toward the nose or aft toward the tail)

 

So, this example...

 

InitialXyz=0,0,-0.3

 

...sets the default eyepoint slightly back from the normal position, about over the headrest.

 

InitialXyz=10,0,0

 

...would take you outboard of the right wingtip.

 

This may be helpful to those who like to fly the warbirds from the faux cockpit. You will have to do some experimenting to find the right Z numbers, as I don't have a warbird to test with.

 

You may also want to enable the Screenshot View camera and use the adjustments on it, rather than the Cockpit camera, so you don't mess up the cockpit in other planes.

Great find!!! I will certainly experiment a little with it! This was indeed what I was looking for!

 

I have my initial zoom set at 7 (always forget if that's 0.700000 or 7.00000 or whatever) instead of the default 6 because zooming in also zooms in on the scenery and I like to zoom out of the scenery more because that makes everything looks sharper and more crisp. A zoom of 7 was a nice compromise but now I will see what happens if I set zoom at 6 again and simply move myself forward in the VC! Nice!

 

Pity you can't set up camera's for every plane but I will see which viewpoint works best for what the current planes.

 

However... I do suppose that setting zoom back to 6 and moving forward in the plane will give me that fish eye lense effect again on the gauges (where they don't look round anymore when looking sideways). Anyway, I will check that out this evening. LOL It's nice having something to tweak again... :wink:

I've found that setting default zoom to 0.75 and looking 7° down gives me a good compromise between marginally readable instruments, eliminating the fisheye distortion and retaining some peripheral vision. Now, I'm going to shift my view-point a bit forward (probably about 0.2 on the Z-axis) to make the instruments a little easier to read.

I adjusted it for the Maule as follows (does also work for the others, except single seater):

InitialZoom = 0.8

InitialPbh=11.0

InitialXyz=-0.065,0.03,0.05

 

This is perfect to see instruments and outside environment.

 

i also added InitialXyz=0,1,0 to the screenshot view. Now it is default above Nose Cowl instead of looking on the feet ;)

I gave various settings a try but in the end... I only moved myself forward a very little bit :wink:

 

InitialXyz=0,0,0.03

 

(I already had zoom at 0.7: as I said anything higher and I zoom in too much on the scenery.)

 

However, I set the screenshot cam to InitialXyz=0,3,-10 which is a major improvement over the default weird 'feetview'!!! I also might use one of the spot views (which I never use) for a close up view of the panel! Would be nice to 'zoom' into the panel with a press of a button. But of course this could become problematic due to the general use of that view. I suppose I could set up a view that's good enough for the Maule and RV-6a but I doubt if it will be any good for other planes...
