May 18, 201214 yr Hello all, Today I wanted to replace my Gigabyte Geforce GT 240 by a new Geforce 550 GTX TI. Following the included installation guide, I removed the nvidia driver, shut dow my computer and swapped the two cards. On startup, there were one long beep followed by two short beeps (video problem?). I don't know what could be the cause. Here are my specs: W7 Ultimate 64 bits Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 2.40 Ghz RAM 8 gig Gigabyte Geforce GT 240 ---> Geforce 550 GTX TI Motherboard MSI PC45-C51 Bios 70.15.1E.00.00 PCI-E 2.0x16@16 1.1. Powersupply : 500w Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Best regards, Jos
May 18, 201214 yr You can look up the beep codes for your motherboard. But before doing that, I'd look at your RAM sticks again in case you disturbed them while inserting new GPU. Also check that you have firmly pushed that GPU Into the PCI-e slot as well as powered it up properly. Some of the newer GPUs require 2 power leads connecting. What make is the new GPU? Rick Almeida
May 18, 201214 yr Author Hi Rick, The GPU is a Nvidia Geforce 550 GTX TI. When I reinsert my Geforce 240, all is well again, so I think that eliminates faulty RAM. I'll try your other suggestions. Thanks, Jos
May 18, 201214 yr Author Well, I think the card is fitted as it should be. There is no external power cord. Could it be the 550 GTX is not compatable with my motherboard although it fits well in my PCI-E slot. Could it be that my 500w powersupply is insufficient? I can feel the fan of the GPU turning however. Or is this just a faulty new card? Any advise will be much appreciated. Jos
May 18, 201214 yr The GPU is a Nvidia Geforce 550 GTX TI. Nvidia is just the developer of that GPU, Which brand is it? Gigabyte, Asus, XFX, Palit, etc, etc? Follow? Once I have that information I can then look up its power requirements. Take mine, its an EVGA branded Nvidia GTX 460Se 1Gb. It requires 2 voltages 8v and 6v. It's an older card then your, so the likelihood logically, is that your newer card will require powering up. Rick Almeida
May 18, 201214 yr Well, I think the card is fitted as it should be. There is no external power cord. Hello This Zotac 550ti shows a power connection does yours not have one as shown in this pic.
May 18, 201214 yr Much as I had assessed-----Two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors(taken from PNY's website description) which means, as per my earlier reply, that you require 2 power 6-pin leads to power it up. No power, no card initialised, no display, error beeps. Hope you now follow all this? Rick Almeida
May 18, 201214 yr Author Trying to hang in there Rick :nea: . Just don't get dat I need TWO power 6-pin leads to power it up? As the pic shows: there is only 1 6 pin socket on the card. So I have to look if I have this lead (s) on board to connect. If not, can I add that type of lead? Jos O boy, stupid me. The connector is in the box as shown in the pic. I'll go and hide myself. Thanks for clearing things up for me, Rick! Jos
May 18, 201214 yr You may only have one 6-pin connector on that board, but if you look carefully, at the power leads from your Power Supply Unit(PSU) and I have no idea what the make is other than it's a 500W unit, you should or will have one 4-pin lead marked PCI-e and the other is a 2-pin PCi-e, normally in that same one cable, just two different terminations. Glad you got it sorted. These shot-myself-in-the-foot moments happen to us all! I thought as much it was very odd you were getting beep codes. Rick Almeida
May 18, 201214 yr Author Reinstalled my 550 GTX, this time with power connected and everything works like a charm. Thank you for your help. Jos
