FSGlobal 2010 - Scenery.cfg?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just installed FSGlobal 2010 and wondering how it should be layered.

According to the FSGlobal website, it should have the highest priority, like

I always thought mesh should have the lowest priority in FS2004 scenery.cfg,

just above the default terrain entry.

Can someone confirm the above picture is correct?

I would leave it like that.

FS9 will use the highest resolution mesh available, regardless of priority.

If you have an addon with local mesh that has the same resolution as the FS Global, you will want that addon below the FS Global due to a quirk in how FS9 uses mesh files.

As FS9 loads scenery elements, starting at the bottom of the Scenery Library, it will use the first instance of the highest resolution mesh and ignore other instances of the same resolution with higher priority.

This quirk applies to mesh and FS9 only.

Joe

Wow. This is weird. For years I always install FSglobal right after installing Fs9 so it is below all other airports and terrains. I thought this is the correct way.

The only time it would matter is if you have an addon that contains it's own custom mesh with the same resolution as the FS Global.

Truthfully, there are not many addons that include custom mesh, but there are a few.

For example. if you have any scenery created by Holger Sandmann it will include custom mesh that he has tweaked to fit his other scenery elements. Glacier Bay is a freeware example that many people use.

If you have 38m mesh for the Glacier Bay area that is lower in priority than the custom mesh from Holger, the sim will not use his custom mesh.

You may have to look hard to find any differences, but they will be there.

I figure that if Holger took the time to tweak the mesh so the terrain looks perfect, why not use it.

Joe
