June 5, 201213 yr This isn't MS Flight related, but I've been fascinated by watching the progress of the Solar Impulse on it's international flight, and thought if you haven't already been watching yourself, you should check it out: http://live.solarimpulse.com/ OK, I'll make this MS Flight related. Wouldn't it be SO cool if this plane were to be made available in Flight?

June 5, 201213 yr I'm sorry....that thing is awesome. I am also staggered by the idea that we can gtrack it's progress, it's altitude, air, ground speed, etc in real time via that website. I've got one eye on my work and one eye on that plane, that's for sure. I see a ground speed of 70-80km/h, and an airspeed of 46km/h. Seems REALLY slow for a stable airspeed, knowing nothing about zero-fuel planes. I wonder if this means that the thing is flying with a pretty major tailwind, or is the 46km/h just not updating in real time and is thus inaccurate? the ground speed is dynamic, but the air speed seems locked at around 46. Whatever, it's super cool.
June 5, 201213 yr I fly a Solar Impulse with x-plane ver. 9.70 (I wouldn't wast your money on ver. 10) Join Airnorthwest VA (http://www.airnorthwest.org/) and after you have enough flight time to be able to fly special operations, you too could fly the Solar Impulse. Looks like the real one, and flight dynamics are very close to the real world Solar Im pulse.
June 5, 201213 yr I love that! These guys are on the cutting edge, it is so inspiring to see this sort of aircraft. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
June 6, 201213 yr An amazing achievement, but not all that much fun in Flight methinks... bit like going for the fuel efficiency record in a racing game!
