  1. Quick question....when you say veered sharply, do you mean yawed right...if so, is it possible that you had a reasonably strong cross wind blowing from right to left? That would push your rudder to the left, forcing your plane to turn right as it gains speed, prior to lifting off the runway. Maybe go out of your way in free flight to choose the calmest weather system, keep an eye on your wind speed/direction and see if it still happens.
  2. I'll try these....let me know (if you have a moment) if you find settings that work particularly well!
  3. Ya I've found that mixed weather offers me the highest possible wind, usually 68kts. I have a few saved freeflights in 68kts winds...it's super fun (and a bit of a joke) in the cub. nothing like flying backwards in a fixed wing!
  4. wonderful...I used your settings within the screenshot category of the CFG file....one question however my pseudo cockpit is clipped, things too close to the camera are gone. do you know if there is a setting to control this?
  5. That's the ticket! Other methods are all very appreciated...but I think with this way I can create a "default" position inside the pseudo cockpit. That being said, I haven't bought the plane yet. I love the other planes, especially the Cub. Does anyone have any input on the C-46 and how it flies? Is this a fun plane? Should i buy it? I have no brain and cannot think for myself. Just ask the wife...she'd probably say "OH COME ON IT'S 7$, JUST BUY IT" But she doesn't fly these things and therefore has no say.
  6. good idea.... saving the game...how does that help? the minute I reset my view, it will snap back to the nose of the plane, yes?
  7. Actually, I thought it might be free. Make no mistake, that is a far cry from thinking that it SHOULD be free, and it's nothing like thinking that we DESERVE it for free. No entitlement here. But, given what's happened, I kinda suspected that it might have been a goodbye present. Game companies sometimes do things like that, mostly as a PR thing, to ease negative feelings and lock down future business. Freebies are not unheard of in this business. Again, none of this reflects feelings that they are obligated, or anything like that. Anyhoo, does anybody have a quick tutorial on how to move the default view to inside the pseudo cockpit? Haven't bought it but I am debating.....
  8. lots of fun. speeding down the mountain afterwards with an added 30kts tailwind....lots of fun.
  9. do you guys use the aerocache indicator?
  10. Anyone else developing a deep respect for Loki? Cause I am.
  11. I have a comment on his article...it's dumb, and he's wrong. We'll never know why MS cancelled Flight, but it's not because of the product itself. Unless someone here is high-high up Microsoft brass, or MS accounting at the very least, deciding why Flight got discontinued is all conjecture based solely personal opinions, at best. Mods, aren't we tired of raising threads starting with things like anti-Flight articles, within a Flight forum? I'd lock it several posts ago. Sorry all, having a bad morning. Happens to us all.
  12. Launching Flight now....me like harder to hit Aerocaches...... edit: damn I got that one June 1st.
  13. ya I still love Flight....I play it every day. If this War Thunder has a great flight model, and I mean great, I might also give it a go.
  14. Thanks Jeroen...I don't know too much about navigation, but what I do know, you taught me pretty much all of it. Thanks again!!
  15. Oh OK...that makes sense. Thank you!
  16. I've always tried to make out what he's saying but I can't. Clearly I am speaking to a real Floyd fan. I salute you sir. Really does hearken back to the days when song lyrics had some substance, intellect and poetic value. I heard him say that between the two interpretations, one being literally learning to fly an aircraft and the other learning to "fly" as a Floyd front-man in the absence of Roger Waters, the latter was correct. I don't believe it. I think he's just writing about learning to pilot and the overwhelming desire to fly. At least that's my story and I'm stickin to it!
  17. The Cub is great. It's almost like Flight's version of a glider, as another member already observed. Fly low, in with a high head wind. You can practically hover beside control towers. The Maule is around 2500lb according to my research, and the Carbon Cub is only around 932lb. Just some food for thought. Oh by the way....what causes the engine stall when I do barrel rolls, or bank/turn really really sharply, in the Cub? Something to so with the air intake I would assume.....
  18. You know what took me a while to figure out? And wouldn't have taken me as long had a REALLY read the VOR tutorial in the tutorial section? the TOWARDS arrow doesn't mean you are heading towards the VOR station, it means you are heading towards the set VOR radial of the tuned station. This is important, I can't help but think that there are other newbies out there like myself making the same mistake. (likewise with the AWAY arrow) Unless I'm mistaken.
  19. and I disagree with your sentiment but we are all entitled to our own opinions. I would submit that this forum is for advocates of Flight and I am not sure what any of this is doing to add to my knowledge of the game, or of actual aviation or navigation.....and I have no interest in ANOTHER thread where a a few people talk about why they don't like Flight, or a thread comparing the pros and cons of various sims. It's not metacritic. Absolutely no offense intended.
  20. Most of all, I want realistic flight dynamics and good looking environment. After that I want things like functional navigation tools. There's more, but those are my first priorities. Flight has those. Only wish they had kept developing it.
  21. I didn't know that, very interesting!! I like Roger Waters as well, make no mistake. I may have gotten a bit tired of hearing about his father dying in the war. I thought Gilmour was a bit more intellectual, but I still love everything Waters turned out. My new one is to listen to Zeppelin and fly through the skyscrapers in Honalulu, at sunset, in the RV-6. See how long you can stay under skyscraper height. Might add, TrackIR is a real helper for this, when planning where you're gonna turn in a hurry!
  22. Although I doubt anyone here cares too much about my little joys, I have discovered a new source of entertainment. If you play Flight in windowed mode, using the full screen script talked about in the "How to use GMap as a popup within Flight full screen" tutorial....you can have your windows media player up as you fly. I recommend starting media player, right-click to options, Player tab, and check Keep Now Playing on top of other windows. Then hit ctrl-2. it makes the player super small, and also fades in opacity when not being interacted with. Then go grab Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly if you don't have it. You know, when Dave Gilmour got a bit happier and dreamier than Waters' angsty previous stuff. Plus, Gilmour was a super-avid pilot! Or don't....I've having a ball flying and listening to my own music!!!!
  23. I've found that mixed weather actually contains the greatest potential for high winds. Only with mixed weather have I encountered 69kt winds....which is obviously how I got my "landing backwards" award. And, by the way, it actually wasn't on purpose!!! LOL
  24. Anybody have it? Anybody have any ideas of how to get it? ever? Heh heh Seriously I still love the game,
