June 13, 201213 yr Good old Captain Mike Ray's simulator checkride guide to the A320 (printed version) is currently on sale at Flight Sim Deal of the Day, a nice touch being that these are personally autographed copies. Anyone who knows Mike's books will also know that they are great, and at 400 pages for a mere 15 bucks (not including postage), this would be an invaluable primer for those who are awaiting the FSL A320 but are not used to the differences in operation on Eurobuses. It being autographed, supplies are limited, so don't hang around if you want a copy: http://www.flightsimdealoftheday.com/ Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 13, 201213 yr Thanks Al - always wanted this but could never justify (either to myself or to 'er indoors) the cost. That price is an absolute steal, though, and my copy was ordered within 3 minutes of seeing your post! Cheers.
June 13, 201213 yr Author Yup, I snagged a copy of it too. I do know the A320 pretty well already, since I actually created some SOP manuals for the real aircraft. So on the face of it, you'd think I would not need such a book, but the thing I like about Mike Ray's stuff, is that apart from being well written, humourous and informative, he throws in the odd little gem of info that you'd only know if you were an experienced airline pilot, and that kind of stuff is always worth reading if you like aeroplanes. For example, in his 737 book, he confirms that you sometimes had to drop the landing gear when coming down from cruise altitude to slow the thing down; now I know that you certainly can do that, but it was interesting to know that airlines genuinely did do that. June 14, 201213 yr Yes, I'd dearly love to get his 737 book, as well. But, again, the price & my wife don't make a good fit! Hope you'll give us all a heads up if the 737 manual turns up with a similar discount in the future.
June 14, 201213 yr Author Doh! The 737 book was in fact on there the other week, although in PDF format. I did actually put this thread in here to let people know: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/375997-heads-up-for-all-you-new-jet-jockeys/ Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 14, 201213 yr Well Al, I think I did see the pdf version (probably from your post) but, as my photo probably suggests, I'm now the wrong side of 58 and I'm old-fashioned enough to prefer the paper manuals that I can tear, spill tea over, put down somewhere but can't remember where etc  Hopefully the paper copy of Mike's 737 manual will appear on offer at some stage - although given the relatively minimal content of the Wilco 737 PIC manual, maybe I should consider taking the plunge and buying it at full price. I'm sure it's worth it ... but it would be nice to find it at discount and help the pension pennies go that wee bit further. All the best Brian
June 14, 201213 yr Author Well, I'd wait a week or so if I were you, since that is the second time a Mike Ray product has appeared on FSDOD in about as many weeks, it's my guess there might be more such appearances. And I do agree with you, the paper version is a lot handier to have when sat at a PC trying to figure some avionics out. I have one of those little Kobo Vox electronic book readers, but I still like to buy hard copies of books anyway; actual books don't need batteries for one thing. :LMAO: Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
