  1. It looks as if they were getting a bit of heat - the PMDG comment has now been removed from their F/Book post.
  2. Good evening Tigg Well, here's something for the 727-200 (it's for FS2004 so I'm not sure to what extent it will read across accurately to a FSX model, but it might be worth a look anyway) http://www.freechecklists.net/simchecklists.asp As regards the other two frames, I don't know of anything off the top of my head. Best wishes Brian
  3. Tom Like many others here, I don't know you personally (although a couple of years ago we did exchange a humourous comment in the Forums about my wife being glad that the links to FlightSim videos had gone AWOL, thus reducing the time I spent with those 'darned pretend airplanes'). But your bad news has knocked me sideways. I just want to briefly say two things - firstly, I hope in whatever time is left to you, you manage to do as much as humanly possible with your loved ones and friends. And secondly, and very simply, "Thank you for your enormous contribution to the pleasure that FlightSimming and AvSim has brought to so many of us over the years. Neither you nor that contribution will be forgotten". Best wishes Brian Wilks
  4. And now it is again .... "flickering" is the word that springs to mind. Hopefully the guys are getting it going again and it'll be stable soon.
  5. This pdf file gives you comprehensive details of all (at least, I think it's all) of the keyboard commands for FSX; could be handy to print it out and keep it by your computer. http://www.mutleyshangar.com/downloads/FSX%20Keyboard%20Commands%20Pamphlet.pdf
  6. Someone seems to have paid the electricity bill yesterday, as SimRoutes is now working as before :-)
  7. I can only echo what many others have said in this thread - many thanks for all the hard and intensive work to everyone who was involved in bringing AvSim back online - great to have the site back :-)
  8. As Jim mentioned above, this is a regular problem nowadays for people who use up-to-date charts when flying on FSX with its out-of-date airports. There are updated versions of many (most?) major airports in the libraries of this and other simulator websites and these will normally update the navigation aids at the airport to something closer to what modern charts show (although sometimes even these add-ons can themselves quickly be overtaken by events!). One thing I do if flying to a default FSX airport is check this site before I depart to ensure I know in advance what navaids will be available at my destination - thus avoiding that nasty problem of arriving in low visibilty expecting a nice ILS to be available, only to find it's missing. http://fsxdb.com/ Regards Brian Wilks
  9. Good afternoon Bob This will update the FSX database and most, if not all, of those 'missing' waypoints will then be available for flight planning. http://www.gbmitch.net/ Brian Wilks
  10. This would be a good choice ... http://forum.avsim.net/forum/121-ms-fsx-forum/ Regards Brian
  11. There's a R34 airship on this page (about the 7th item down) at Simviation. No idea if it's any good but at least it's a 'steerable balloon'! http://simviation.com/fsxmisc7.htm I'm sure that over the years I've seen more airships in the various download libraries here at AvSim and also at FlightSim and Simviation - if the R34 doesn't do the job, it could be worthwhile trawling through these libraries for airship, blimp, zeppelin - or any other term that could be used to describe them. Anyway, with luck the R34 will be just what you need. All the best Brian Wilks
  12. The Airbus auto-trims in real life so in principle Wilco's model is correct (in other words, if you don't want auto-trim, don't fly an Airbus). However, Wilco's implementation of the Airbus trim process has some odd quirks - although, by using the correct settings, you can successfully avoid problems. There was a discusiion on VatSim about the Wilco Airbus early last year and you might find this of interest ... http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=57999 ... see especially Kirk Christie's post of 21 January 2012 about the necessity to fly the Wilco Airbus in Expert mode and to set the sensitivity levels correctly (and also his emphasis on how the Airbus can't be flown in the same way as a Boeing aircraft). Regards Brian Wilks
  13. It's only the GameSpy system that has been abandoned by Microsoft; multiplayer sessions are still available using alternative methods. Here are a few links which might assist you in getting going - I can't vouch for how hard/easy the process is, as I only use VatSim for my online flying; but these links might give you a few ideas. http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/topic/16262-fsx-multiplayer-direct-connection/ http://www.fsxbeyondgamespy.com/sessions.php http://www.fsopen.co.uk/info/sessions/ Regards Brian Wilks
  14. Good morning Gregg Some time ago, I came across this quick-and-easy primer covering some of the differences between USA and European ATC procedures. It's very basic but I found it informative; hope it's of some use to you too. http://www.vorstaedt.de/eurprimer.html Regards Brian Wilks
  15. Landings shouldn't be a problem; it's just a question of having a good co-pilot
  16. Brilliant - these streaming videos are better than most of what is on television nowadays. Thank you, sir!
  17. Hi Chase The link to the streaming videos has reappeared in the banner menu; many thanks for fixing that. At the moment, however, both the direct link in your post and the link on the banner menu are bringing up a message saying that the link has been temporarily disabled during the lead-up to the 777's release. If things are still busy (even post-release) then a few extra days' wait until the link goes active again won't cause me any heartbreak (and will please the wife mightily). Alternatively, if things have now quietened down and the reactivation of the link just needs another button pushed somewhere, are you the man for the job ... or is that 'Tom-grade' work? ;-) Thanks again, anyway. Brian Wilks
  18. A few months ago AvSim intorduced a new link, in the menu line at the top of the page, to live-streaming videos. I found this a useful addition to AvSim's 'entertainment portfolio' even if my wife didn't quite agree .... "So, as well as spending countless hours in those darned pretend airplanes, you're also going to be wasting your time watching other people pretending to be pilots?" (or words to that effect). However, that link disappeared about a couple of weeks ago. I thought that perhaps it was just a temporary thing - especially as there was a notice at the top of the forums for quite a while saying that, because of the imminence of the 777's release, some things might be slow, absent etc until matters quietened down. We seem to be back to normal service now yet the live video link remains absent. If it's been dropped because no-one (except me!) was using it, that would be understandable of course - and most of the live videos can be accessed via the TwitchTV website anyway. Alternatively, if it's just gone missing by accident or oversight, is there any chance someone could add it back in to the menu bar? Many thanks Brian Wilks Edit: Thinking about this after posting, I suspect the post would maybe have been more appropriately placed in Hangar Chat or Letters To Editorial Staff; please feel free to move it if so.
  19. Here ya go - it's all in this topic. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/415792-linkedhighlighted-words-and-popups-new-feature/ Stop having vacations - you miss things  All the best Brian Wilks
  20. I see that you're using Windows8 as your OS. There have been many reports recently of problems for Windows8 users with games controllers in FSX 'disconnecting'. Most of the threads I've read say that currently there is no single fix that will work for everyone - although some have found that certain adjustments etc work for them. In one particular thread, Pete Dowson expresses the view that it'll be a continuing problem until Microsoft puts out a 'fix' and that, until then, a significant number of Windows8 users will have recurring problems. This is the thread http://forum.simflight.com/topic/73061-saitek-yoke-keeps-disconnecting-from-fsx-with-fsuipc-on-windows-8-pro/ Also, if you use a search engine for a term such as 'Windows8 FSX Game Controller Problems' it'll throw up many, many discussions of this issue and some of them may provide a solution that'll work for you. Personally, I'm on WindowsXP and don't have the problem; I'm thinking of upgrading my system soon(ish) and if and when I do, I'll be insisting that Windows7 is installed and not Windows8 ... unless this problem has been fixed by Microsoft in the interim. Regards Brian
  21. I've been thinking of upgrading my system for a while now and, in the course of my searches for recommendations, I've come across several references to this company. They specialise in 'gaming' machines and seem a far better prospect that something like an off-the-shelf Dell package. No idea on whether they'd pre-bundle FSX and/or a specific aircraft; but if you go for a Windows 7 system then, as Ron mentioned above, it's unlikely you'd have any problems - and, in fact, it now seems that with the correct user settings Windows 8 shouldn't be a problem either*. Anyway, the link to the company is http://www.digitalstormonline.com/ Hope this is of interest to you. Regards, Brian [* although I keep hearing horror stories of controllers suddenly not being recognised on Windows 8 systems - the use of the paid-for version of FSUIPC is a recommended fix for this but I'm not entirely convinced that it works for everyone.]
  22. Seems to be an infrequently-seen problem but this chap found a solution; maybe it'll work for your set-up? http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/archive/index.php/t-250729.html .... in particular, see the last post in the thread. Fingers crossed for you. Regards Brian
  23. anthony Tom suggested one way to turn off the feature in this thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/405452-click-here-to-return-to-top-of-page/ This might be what you're looking for. Brian
  24. Jeojao Just Flight have a 'freemium' version of the 757 which is more detailed than most freeware models and they have just released a free Americam Airlines livery for it (not sure if it has winglets). Might be just what you're looking for. Here's the link to the free livery and there's a link to the 'freemium' plane on the same page. Regards Brian Wilks
  25. Hi VORActive This problem has been reported regularly by FSX users for the last few weeks or so. What now seems to be fairly certain is that the FSX real time weather is no longer obtaining updated world weather. It'll still inject 'real time world weather' but that weather is now fixed at a (past) moment in time. Some have suggested (and it seems a likely explanation) that ,as part of their withdrawal of support for FSX, Microsoft are no longer paying Jeppesen for access to real time weather information, so Jeppesen have pulled the plug on real time feeds from the worldwide weather stations. This lack of real time weather was ruining the simulation experience for me - and made a nonsense of my flight planning (which was by reference to official, and current, METARs, TAFs etc). There are many payware alternatives, such as the one mentioned by the previous poster - and they all have some really excellent features. But if you're just looking something to replace the now defunct Microsoft real time weather, you might want to look into FSreal WX Lite. It's free, easy to set up and accurately loads up the current weather. It's nowhere as advanced as the payware options, of course, but it's a slight improvement over the previous Microsoft weather and it'll give you back the lost real time weather. Oh, and did I mention it's free? :-) Have a look at it, it might be what you're looking for. I'm using it and am very happy with it. Here's the link http://www.hanse-coders.net/index.php?page=self&id=1 Regards Brian Wilks
