RC4 and it's display window

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was doing a little searching on this as the display for RC in FSX is so hard to read. ADVDisp came up but not sure if this will work with FSX as most of the conversations referenced FS2004. Does anyone know if this will work or is there another solution to making this window more readable?

Thanks

Hello Bob

What are you finding hard to read, is it the text colour or the clearness of the text?

I have had issues in the past with higher AA settings causing the text to go a bit fuzzy and I found the red text hard to read.

Once i had switched to white text and found an AA setting that did not blur the text I could read the window fine.

I now use Showtext by Rob van der wiele on my laptop via WideFs and this fine program allows full control over colours, fonts and font size which is great for these tired old eyes.

Great I will check it out. Yes it is the colors. Does ADVDisplay work also?

Found Showtext but it states it is used in conjunction with ADVDisplay. I went on Peter's site and found the Showtext but not ADVDisplay.

I will keep looking.

Hello Bob

I do not know if Advdisplay works with FSX as I stopped using it as soon as Pete implemented the transparent window as it always gave me a slight stutter, mind that was back before hardware got so powerful..

Showtext does not need Advdisplay despite what the pdf says, the documentation is from 2003 so it was written before the new FSuipc window facilities were developed..

It does really need to be run over a network via WideFS for best effect, think of it as a remote display for the RC output with fully configurable text sizes, fonts and fg and bg colours.

Have you tried setting the Fsuipc windows text to white as I found that much more readable than the red.

Here is a shot of Showtext running on the laptop, it is sitting on top of FScommander as it has a stay on top setting in its options.

Thanks MD, I will try FSUPIC. I did not realize it had an option for that.

ShowText works on its own. It interfaces to FSUIPC directly, or via WideFS. AdvDisplay is long obsolete and certainly never for FSX.

Alternatively of course you can undock the normal FS window, but you have to run FSX is Windowed mode for that.

Hey Peter,

Does it install on the FSX computer or the client for Radar Contact?

Thanks

You didn't read the message of mine you just quoted?

"It interfaces to FSUIPC directly, or via WideFS".

WideFS must be what you are using, with WideClient on the RC PC, right? You can put ShowText on any WideFS client. That's what it means "via WideFS". I use it on a separate PC altogether, with a small screen inside my cockpit.

Hi Pete,

Well it won't be first time Pete. My wife says I don't listen well, and I guess it bleeds into reading emails sometimes. Thanks for putting it all in bold, red and underlined and most of all taking the time to post again. I will give it a try today.

Regards

Bob
