If I keep only one livery for a plane does it matter which one?

Featured Replies

If I uncheck the "show variations" check box on the aircraft selection screen, I see that there are certain liveries that are apparently default. Are they really "default" or simply the first one in the cfg file.

I want to delete a bunch of liveries for several planes but I don't want to risk deleting the "wrong" one. Can I rest assured that there is no such thing as long as I keep at least one for each type?

p.s. Yes I'll back up configs and texture folders and be careful

I think you always see the first livery entry, [fltsim.0]. If you alter that one in the aircraft.cfg, you can pick your favourite to show up. This should just be a number switch, rendering the current [fltsim.0] to [fltsim.15] and #15 to 0 for example.

Cool. Thanks Cool. I'll leave the default FSX planes alone just to be safe. You never know when FSX will decide to go insane.

Just read the Texture.cfg in each folder first to see if the only one you are keeping calls upon any texture files in one of the other folders. There is usually a master texture folder with the common shared files but not always so you need to be careful or you could have blank areas! I always delete all but one or maybe two of the liveries as I loathe having hundreds of minor variations.

Remember that the default planes are used for AI, too. Removing a bunch of liveries will dramatically decrease your traffic. Even if you run a third-party AI traffic addon, your GA traffic will take a big hit.
