June 24, 201213 yr Hey all - I have a few easy questions that I need verification on. After reading through the FCOMs and then cross checking with checklist I am a little confused.. 1) under normal operating procedures the engine bleed valves remain open as I understand. The confusion comes from the checklist "set/verify". Set what - they should be open. I am not sure what to set. 2) engine hydraulic pump - I have seen mixed information on this, while starting engines is the right engine hydraulic pump on? Left hydraulic comes on after engine start. 3) FMS reserve fuel quantities - is this value my alt airport + hold + contingency or is this the fuel value expected at landing... Which if I understand should the same value. Just want to make sure I understand. Thanks again guys. Benjamin Benjamin Van Eps

You will continue to hear mixed info. many airlines leave all of the electric hydraulics off until after engine start, while others turn the left electric on before pushback 3.) yes all 3 Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major
June 24, 201213 yr 1) the bleeds must be on all time for the engines in normal conditions, it could be required to turn them off if you need a bleed off take off. 2) The requirement is for A system, B system, not elec or ENG pump. "A" system must be off during pushback in order to unpower the steering system or damage can occur, however most of the time ground mechanic use bypass pin to unload the hydraulic A without turning it off, in this case, the ELEC and ENG pumps could be left on. Syestem A or B is different than ELEC A or B as the engine pumps will power the systems if the engines are starting/running. To deactivate system A you must either: -turn off elec and eng hyd A pumps or -turn off elec A pump and wait until pushback is finished to start the left engine. (preferred) Regards Andrea Daviero
