Aircraft keeps climbing

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just took the 747-8i for a spin from VHHH to KJFK. After climbing to cruise altitude using vnav and setting up my flight level on the fmc the 747-8i kept climbing past the altitude set on the MCP. It was impossible to descend to our supposedly cruise altitude. The airplane kept going up.

What could be happening?

Did you have VNAV and Autopilot engaged at the time?

Cheers, Richard

Yeah, VNAV was enabled and everything and the plane kept climbing past its TOC.

Very strange behavior.

Screenshot would really help next time.

I don't mean to be derogatory, but a majority of the time people say "yes, I did that," when there was a problem, they didn't actually do it. A screenshot would have shown us what was and wasn't on more precisely. To me, it sounds like VNAV was not engaged, or something else was not configured properly.

You probably missed something as simple as setting your cruise altitude on the MCP. Just because you set it in the FMC doesn't mean that you don't have to set it elsewhere.
