Alaska Clandestine job with Cubby

Featured Replies

I was doing a job with the Carbon Cub at night from Hughes (PAHU) to Trading Bay Productions (5AKO). The flight nurse about had a fit when I took off from the ramp instead of wasting time taixing to the active.

Anyway ended up at Trading Bay ok. By this time it was midnight and I was ready to turn in when I made the mistake of checking the job board. Well, here was a Clandrstine job to Sterling Air Park (40AK). I could not pass it up, so off I went, sleep is over rated for us old guys anyway. I was only about 36 miles but I went on a round about course. Kept about 200 feet over the water and under 500 feet over land and arrived in the area with out incident. It was so dark that I couud not see the runway and had to go-around. I took a picture but it was so dark that you could not see a thing so I am inclosing a pic of what it looks like during the day. I did manage to land ok, really glad I had the Cubby, it was a rough landing. 16,647 XP. Finally got to bed at one am. will love the Cubby even more when we get a VC.

I would have to say, landing at that airstrip in pitch dark, is certainly job well done!
