Runway Skid Marks and Parking Oil Spots?

Featured Replies

I have searched for a set of textures to show runway skid marks and oil spots at the parking spots with no success. I am running Acceleration. Any help sure would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob.

REX will let you change all that stuff, it has a lot of different textures for airports, from crappy old beat up tarmac with marks all over it, to pristine new aprons ready for a visit from the Queen.

Hi Al. Thanks. I got it and installed it. It's great. I did not realize it was available for free. Now if I could find some textures for the runway skid marks I'd be set. Best regards, Bob.

Hi Bob, This sounds great, but i am not sure what program you are refering to that is free. Any info would be great. thanks, Glen

Be aware of this issue,

It's fx_skidmark.fx, located inside the main FSX effects folder.

A file called skidmark cant be any good when it isn't actually providing any visible effects.

Trashed it and now, no more fps drops, with hardbraking, on dry or wet runways.

Problem solved, for me at least.

If you feel you have no need for skidmarks(are they actually rendered?) , and are experiencing this problem as well, by all means get rid of the file. See if it helps you.

Cool, I was not aware of those freebies, and I am a Beta tester for REX.

Cheers, Glen

Thanks to all that have answered my question. I am not satisfied with the stock FSX skidmark effect. I wanted more skidmarks. I do not have any pauses while hard braking. The free REX download fixed the oil spots on the parking spots. I might buy the full REX. Regards, Bob.

Removing the skidmark file, combined with the usage of the external FPS limiter, brought me FSX smoothness at last.

I cannot stress this enough - SMOOTHNESS - like I have with Rise of Flight..absolutely ZERO chop now (except for ATC caused - when will we ever find a cure for that?)

stable FPS at 28-30 virtually everywhere with virtually every 3D model...seriously
