Can't get the RXP GNS to run the EFD1000

Featured Replies

I've installed the A36 on a new computer, flies great, but I can't get the GNS430 (RXP) to connect to the EFD1000. I have the ini file as required, I have the latest RXP update, but the EFD1000 has a red line through the GPS unless I put in a FSX flight plan. It's probably something simple, but I can't figure out what I've done. A possibly related issue, when I pop up the GNS430, only the RXP one shows, there's a blank space below where the Carenado one should be.

Make sure the rxp430 is the "active" gps. You can change that by right clicking on the memory card slot on the 430 (user manual, page 7).

Make sure you have LinkGPS=On set in the ini file.

To initialize with the rxp unit active, it has to be the first one to load in the panel.cfg file..

For the popup, check the panel.cfg file and edit the popup window if required (and

make sure you do not have several popup windows defined!)... try shift-2, shift-3 etc to see

what pops up.

I just tried right clicking on the memory card slot, it beeps, but nothing changes. I have LinkGPS=ON in the ini. As for the pop up, while it doesn't bother me since I'll just use the rxp unit, the panel file shows both units on the new computer just as it does on the old, where both worked..weird.

What does the popup window look like in the panel.cfg file?

And what happens when you click shift-2, shift-3 etc?

Also look at the attached picture, if you get this when mousing over the memory card slot, the RXP GNS is not the active device!

Here's the entry in the panel file:

as you can see it lists both GNSs, but only the RXP one shows.

When I click Shift 1 I get the Manual, and Shidt 2 I get the box to click off reflecting glass, etc.

I just checked the GNS430 (I had cockpit tips turned off) and it does say the GNS430 is the active GPS. I've already flown with it so I figured that was true. I just can't get the thing to command the EFD.

Maybe I don't have the right A36 update. I see that I downloaded it Nov. 14th of last year, but I swear this thing worked on the old computer.

I appreciate your continuing to try and help me on this.

Nothing new on the A36. I did add the service pack, and obviously I had it because it made no difference. I also tried going back to the Carenado GNS430's..both showed in the pop up, but the RXP unit (non working) was still in the panel?? I then ran the RXP install again, and it came up exactly like before with only the RXP and a blank space on the pop up and the RXP in charge but not linking to the EFD.

This problem finally corrected itself after I rebooted the computer. Man I've got to learn to read the fine print on these installers.

Thanks for the help Bert.

I consistently reboot my computer each time I go to load FSX. My system is not dedicated solely to FSX. It is a general use computer so I strive to free memory and clear buffers before each flight. Just part of my pre-flight.
