RV6 Brakes?

I'm serious about this... If any of you are seriously thinking about training in RL one day, get real serious about using those checklists. It will impress your instructor, save you money, and make you a more disciplined pilot.

If you are just having fun, then as you were! :)

I had a CFI that wasn't big on checklists in South Florida when I started flying. He crashed on takeoff one day and he and his passenger were killed. They said it was an engine problem.

Was he religious about doing a proper runup?

In FSX I usually ended up making my own checklist and copying it to a html file so I could refer to it in the game on the kneeboard. Text was a lot easier to read, and I could do some optimization so that I wasn't looking all over the virtual cockpit. Also, I could get a bit closer to real world procedures than what the default checklists provided. Um... I haven't done this for Flight yet.

I also did this in FSX but only for the big ones (MD-11, Airbus X, 737NGX). The checklist for the planes in Flight would be too short too bother.

The runup was part of the checklist that he occasionally ignored as I stated.

I always cringe when I see someone take off without doing a run up after starting a cold parked plane. I takes so little time to do and it *does* spot trouble. problems never get better in the air!

In Hollywood Fl, when I lived there, a businessman showed up at the airport on morning at 7:00 am with a friend, and wanted to get his twin engine Cessna out of the hanger, cause he had to fly to a meeting somewhere. He was angry, because there was another aircraft parked in front of the hangar door and he had to wait to get a tow to move it. Finally the doorway was cleared, he and his passenger got in the aircraft and taxied to the active runway calling the tower on the way for takeoff clearance. He never did a runup or pre-flight cause he was in a big hurry. They said, as he was rolling down the 3,000 foot runway for takeoff, they could hear one of his engines back firing in the tower. He rotated, his right engine quit, at about 150 ft agl , the aircraft rolled inverted and plowed into a home . He was late for his appointment......
