August 17, 201213 yr Moderator FSPS can only "list" gauges that are in the specific aircraft's ..\panel folder, or the general ..\Gauges folder. Gauges that're in other aircraft's ..\panel folders can NOT be seen by FSPS. What you can do is load another aircraft (such as the DR400) select the gauge you want and Ctrl-C (copy) it, then close that panel.cfg file and reopen your aircraft's panel.cfg file, then Ctrl-V (paste) the copied gauge entry. By the way, one of FSPS's peculiarities is that you cannot get a listing of your aircraft's ..\panel folder's XML gauges unless you have at least one .gau type gauge in that folder... Fr. August 19, 201213 yr Author Well, I'm making some progress but sliding back in other areas... I'm able to view the panel file for the new aircraft (DA40) as well as open the basic 00 panel (mini) which is two garmin g1000s. However, the icon for the cfg panel shows with a little "padlock"; I cannot change "CREATOR OWNER" permissions to "Allow" and have it stick; in other words, I can click "Full control" in the Permissions window under the Security tab for the properties, but the permission to Allow all simply "un-checks" itself after trying to apply. [edit] Interestingly (annoyingly) the gold padlock only shows up in FS Panel Studio when browsing now... It's off when viewed outside the program. Further... when I'm trying to edit my original 172 panel (original meaning the one I created and contains lots of RealityXP stuff) it is crashing frequently with "The instruction at 0x77e5e82b referenced memory at 0x00000024. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program" Not sure if this is a support questions for the program authors at this point? Wow, this sure is a lot of work for not getting anything accomplished! Grrr.. thanks, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
August 19, 201213 yr Moderator Try starting FSPS in "Administrator" mode: right-click on the desktop icon and choose "Run as Administrator." This might allow you to have full access. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 21, 201213 yr Author Try starting FSPS in "Administrator" mode: right-click on the desktop icon and choose "Run as Administrator." This might allow you to have full access. Yup! That did it. Thank you! Ok, what's with all the Administrator nonsense? If I'm signed on as the administrator, why do I have to tell Windows to run as Administrator? Epic head shake... Well, thanks again. August 22, 201213 yr Moderator Yup! That did it. Thank you! Ok, what's with all the Administrator nonsense? If I'm signed on as the administrator, why do I have to tell Windows to run as Administrator? Epic head shake... Well, thanks again. That's because in both Vista and Win7, there are actually two "Administrator" modes: Administrator Super Administrator The super administrator account I'm referring to is the, disabled by default, Administrator account. It is definitely not subject to UAC prompts. Here's what Windows Vista Inside Out, Deluxe Edition says about it: "With default settings in Windows Vista, it does have one unique capability: it's not subject to UAC, even when UAC is turned on for all other users. That is, it runs with full administrative privileges at all times and never needs your consent for elevation" Here is an article that explains in detail how to enable the "Super Administrator" account: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/ However, I don't really recommend using the "SA" account very often, and especially not when connected to the Internet because all of your system's built in protections are disabled! For FSPS, simply right-click on the Desktop Icon and set it to automatically run in Administrator mode every time you launch it... B) Fr. August 22, 201213 yr Author Yeah, guess I can do that. Not sure if it works from the taskbar, but I'll find out... This may also explain errors when running Instant Scenery... maybe I have to run FSX in Admin mode since it's a plugin? Hmmmm..... H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
August 22, 201213 yr Moderator I've always launched FS9, FSX, and Prepar3D in "Administrator" mode, even though all three are installed outside the rediculously over-protected "Program Files" folder... ...I also have "Disable desktop composition" and "Disable visual themes" selected to prevent them from causing problems. Fr.
