I am just curious. I have seen people talking about their setups and connecting their PC's to their big screen TV's.

If it's possible, what is required to accomplish it - any special hardware, connections on the PC as well as on TVs ?

I've been on a Samsung 63" DLP without problems. No special hardware, DVI to HDMI (TV) or depending on the card HDMI to HDMI.

Also, for the sound I'm on my Home Theater 7.1 fiber optic cable, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3545342&znt_campaign=Category_CMS&znt_source=CAT&znt_medium=RSCOM&znt_content=CT4379539

can't beat that....

Agreed, been using huge LCD's for a while now. Great for immersion.

Appreciate your response. Any degradation on picture quality and/or resolution relative to a computer monitor ?

As to other hardware, does that mean you use a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse - 63" is a bigass TV to be sitting up close to ! Come to think of it, is there a wireless joystick too ?

1080P (1920 X 1080) is (I think) the highest res. you c an get for big screen TV, no loss of quality or picture degradation on my side, the difference will be in Hz like this one at 480Hz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889005328

Everything is wireless but my plane hardware (joystick, pedals +++) but they do make cordless joystick.. http://www.furinno.com/Logitech-Freedom-2-4-Cordless-Joystick/dp/B00006OP9C?traffic_src=bing_shopping&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=bing_shopping and I'm sitting 7' away from the screen.

Yup, had a Panasonic 50" plasma like for 3 days but I was sitting too close and just swapped it for a Sony 46" Bravia LCD. It's connected via HDMI and it's stunning and totally immersive.

Before this, I had a setup with 3x Dell 2405FPW 24" monitors. Now that feels so small and constricted compared to a big, HDTV. Go for it!

I am salivating at some of the responses posted thus far. However, I do have a couple more questions before I drum up enough courage to try it or convince my better half that an HDTV is just as good as a computer monitor !

With the prices of HDTV's coming down it would seem to make more sense to have an HDTV than a regular computer monitor, even with a PC tuner card, wouldn't it ?

With the HDTV setup, would the computer have to be turned off to watch TV for instance ? Or would the HDTV have to have the PIP - picture in picture capability ?

Keep in mind that the highest resolution on HDTVs is going to be 1920x1080, so if that isn't an impediment, go for it. The misses will eventually concede. Trust me, they always do. Hahaha

1080p on a large screen sitting right in front of you tends to be quite pixelated, not great for that aspect of immersion but the size is nice. The other option is multiple high res monitors like the monitor-du-jour 27" 2560x1440 IPS from umpteen different Korean Ebay sellers, or your local Micro Center if you have one. $300-$400 depending on quality, connectivity, and adjustability.

It's because your sitting to close to it, I am 7' away from my 63" screen.

Sure, I understand. Personally, I prefer being close since my eyesight's not fantastic.

And I think you might be able to get a bit closer and get more immersed. ;-)

When I game on my 125" screen with the Xbox in my cinema room, I sit 9' away and it's perfect. Keep in mind this is a 9.5 feet wide image at 1080P!

Unless you have eagle vision or play with binoculars, you won't see any pixelation.

What's the next step.....IMAX?

With prices on HDTVs dropping considerably, this is really tempting...
