Does bad MS ATC negate Ultimate Traffic?

Featured Replies

It seems that because built in FS ATC is so bad at sequencing even the default traffic for landing that it would affect enjoyment of an AI traffic program like Ultimate Traffic. Is this true?It seems I would get very annoyed if every other time I come in for landing I have to go around or end up crashing into the plane in front of me because of poor separation. Would seem to take the fun out of it?There seem to be alot of fans of UT. Do you just "live with" the problems the ATC causes the add on?Thanks for any feedback.

I tend to just "live with" the issues that UT may present at busy airports. Usually I'll just go around when needed, but if I just don't have time to go around, or if I've gone around 4 times already, there are ways to force the AI to disappear... (pause, sim rate up to 8X, back to 1X, unpause, AI is reset and runway is clear)

All of the few aircraft I use that depart or arrive at busy airports have an installed TCAS, usually integrated with an EHSI display. Traffic at these airports are usually required to be operating with transponders meaning there should be no aircraft in the departure/arrival vicinity that will not show. This type of TCAS display allows me to adjust speed to assist with seperation by estimating the runway departure of arrival aircraft in front and not get too close to aircraft departing on my departures. If any aircraft in back of me start closing, I'll keep a higher speed to the OM and start my final slowing on the last portions of final within the limitations of my aircraft.Overheard on scanning of real ATC approach at KMSP:Uhhh ... sir. I'd like to slow down now.uhhh ... sir. I need to slow down now.uhhh ... sir. I really have to slow down now.uhhh ... Thank you, sir.So occasionally it does happen in the real world.

Once you have Ultimate Traffic, you just get used to it.

It's not a UT fault, it's FS ATC trying to keep up with all the traffic. Hopefully we will see better ATC in FS06.

I'm with StoneCold on this one. It's a minor annoyance that can be quickly corrected with a slight pause. I hope as well that this problem is correted in FS 2006.DougDell 8250 (3.06GHz/533FSB)1GB Rambus RAM120MB ATA 100 (7200 RPM)ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 4.5)Audigy 2 Sound (latest drivers)MS Force Feedback 2WindowsXP Pro (SP1)DirectX 9.0b

Users of Radar Contact 3.1 like myself are anxiously awaiting version 4. 3.1 is AI aware and can issue traffic calls, go-arounds, etc., with far more realistic vetoring, gives you preflight options, and in-flight options for IFR.Version 4 in current development will have a suite of AI control features for the AI and you such as avoidance vectoring and speed control, inhibit AI from taxiing onto the runway when you are on final, and other AI control features not previously available until the most recent releases of FSUIPC (the program provides the registration key for its features).See the forum here on AVSIM.
