August 17, 201213 yr Hi guys, Not flown the 737NGX in a few months so thought ill do some Amercican Airlines routes. Problem is the brakes don't do anything, took the full length of a 12,000ft runway to stop. Any ideas? I looked at failures and it says non are active so im clueless, any ideas?
August 17, 201213 yr Please tell more details: -landing speed -local ambient temperature -flight duration -did you use autobrake or manual? -did you use other means of slowing down - air brakes, reversers, etc? --Peter Fabian
August 17, 201213 yr Author - Speed was about 140kts - Temp was around 30c - Flight time was 3 hours - Set autobrake to 2 - Spoilers and reverse thrust Hope this helps.
August 17, 201213 yr Looks to me like autobrakes failed to activate maybe. Did you try manual braking? One case of autobrake failing might be just a slight recorded "pressure" on the controller, i.e. your brake pedals, if you have any, are probably sending just a slight off-center signal, not enough to guarantee sufficient braking, but enough to screw up autobrake. --Peter Fabian
August 17, 201213 yr Author Tryed manual braking aswell and doesn't work. All other aircraft like 747 etc work though so not sure if its a problem with my joystick.
August 17, 201213 yr Which brakes are you using? In the FMC, go to PMDG Setup > Aircraft > Equipment > Air frame, then for brakes choose Carbon if they are not the current setting. The steel brakes can overheat causing the brakes to stop functioning during landing, that is probably why the brakes stopped working when you tried to land.
August 18, 201213 yr Pushing back with parking break set will ruin your breaks too... though you will probably notice this when taxying out. (Hold short of the runway.... uh oh... fall off into ditch near runway). August 18, 201213 yr I had this problem before. Remember to install the latest service pack and everything will be fine. David Chen
