"Favorites" folder for frequent flyers?

Featured Replies

Is there a way to make a "Favorites" folder for your frequently flown aircraft and liveries so that you don't have to scroll through a hundred default and addon aircraft?

Is it also necessary for AI aircraft to be in Simobjects/Airplanes folder to function properly in FSX? I have a lot of Vietnam War Project AI a/c and when I sequestered them in their own folder, it looked like they ceased to function.

Thanks in advance.

The method I use for favorite aircraft is going into each aircraft's cfg file and adding 'AA' in front of the manufacturer's name.

So if you had the pmdg ngx, the manufacturer line would say "boeing" and you change it to "AA boeing" since by default the aircraft list is organized by manufacturer in alphabetical order.

I make a new folder called SimObjects\Airplanes\~hold (with a shortcut to it on the desktop)

Then I simply go there and move the airplanes I'm not using into the ~hold folder and grab the ones I want. You can even make different folders called ~ga, ~jets etc. The ~ makes sure they stay at the top of the list in the Aircraft folder. Primitive but quick & simple.

Just be careful with moving some default aircraft as lots of addons, especially my myriad of freeware, use the default aircraft gauges, sounds etc.

777fan's method is quite tidy, but actually moving the aircraft folders out of the root Airplanes folder makes a nice difference to initial FSX startup times.

You can of course add AI traffic from any folder within the main FSX folder. You'll need to go to the FSX.cfg (User/appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX) and add the line "SimObjectPath.x=xyz", whereas x is the next number, in the default FSX.cfg it would be 6 or 7 if I remember correctly. Xyz is where your AI source folder is located within the main FSX folder.

Regarding your first question: not sure what you really want, but if you want to select your aircraft from a "Favorites" list in FSX, you could get that by adding Favorites to the Typerole line in the aircraft.cfg of that particular plane. Now, when you select an aircraft, you can select "Favorites" in the top right cornr of the menu, and there you go!

You could also try FlusiFix,a great little utility, that, amongst other things, allows you to exclude aircraft you don't fly:

Folders for Simobjects can be anywhere on your system since in the fsx.cfg file main

section you have to supply the full path to a simobjects folder.

On my system I have separate folders in various locations/drives for Military AI,

Propliners, A6 Aircraft, AI Aircraft (non-military), 91st BG Aircraft, and so on.

I also have multiple fsx.cfg files with the appropriate simobjects enabled or

disabled. This is accomplished by creating uniquely named "fsx_some-name.exe"

files. The associated cfg file, "fsx_some-name.cdfg" will be loaded when you

start the exe.

This is brilliant. I also have several fsx.cfg files for use with various aircraft/scenery, but I use a batch file to copy them into place. I never realised that renaming fsx.exe would have it looking for the corresponding cfg file. Pure gold! This makes it even easier, thanks!

Just a note of caution...if you are running FSUIPC4 you will want to copy your

FSUIPC4.ini file and name it the same as the fsx-renamed.

Also, if it is a registered copy you will needto also do yhe same thing with

the key file.
