August 19, 201213 yr I was looking up some data on crosswind components and came across this video from Icon on the airplane's spin resistance. Pretty impressive little aircraft, certainly the kind of airplane I would like to fly if I were a pilot. Of course, the Icon is not the first spin resistant airplane, but it seems to be very effective. And obviously we can spin it in Flight: it would be too much to expect a perfect flight model of an airplane that is still in development.. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
August 20, 201213 yr Commercial Member Ya. The aircraft was developing rapidly when we were making it for Flight. The wings changed twice along with many other details. At some point, we just had to say "this is the Flight Icon" and finish things. Later on, Icon even added flaps to the design that wont be in Flight. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
August 20, 201213 yr Let me try... I'll get it to spin. ^_^ ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 20, 201213 yr I hear it has great water handling characteristics, turning (180 degree) water takeoffs, etc.
August 20, 201213 yr Commercial Member There are video's on Icon's web page that showed them doing extreme maneuvers in water with the Icon. Even dipping the wing tips in water! The tips are designed specifically not to "catch" water and create drag that would spin most aircraft, but to skip along the surface. Lots went into the design of this very cool aircraft! August 21, 201213 yr If I remember correctly, the wingfold works... on the FSX freeware version ;) Chris Brisland - the repainter known as EagleSkinner is back from the dead. Perhaps. Or maybe not.
