Voice actors for missions
FrankFasi replied to FrankFasi's topic in FSX | P3D Missions Forum - How To
Well, that's three of us. If we can get two or three more that would be good, but for now three voices will work fine. I have a decent recording setup (a very good mic, and very good audio editing software). The UK voice will be handy, because I'm working up some "Biggles & Co." missions. My fake British accent is a little crappy. I can do various American accents pretty well. Maybe we could setup a DropBox shared folder to get this up and running. That's an efficient means of moving files back and forth, to include text files containing script lines, and the actual recorded audio files. I uploaded a new Biggles mission on Sunday, but I've had to re-submit it due to the fact I accidently included a non-stock scenery object which causes the whole mission to not run if the user doesn't also own that third-party scenery object (in this case, a tent). The fixed mission should show up tomorrow. -
Is there any sort of group here, or somewhere else where members contribute their voice to others' missions by reading lines from scripts? Or, is anyone interested in setting up something like that? I'm getting tired of trying to make my voice sound different, to play all the different actors in my missions (especially female voices). Comes off mediocre.

Here's a twist on the topic, a different way of answering: What were the hit songs on the radio at the time you solo'd? My answer: The Logical Song, Damned If I do, Sultans of Swing Can you guess the year? Also, I received a cool poster from my FBO after my solo. It shows a mother bird kicking the baby bird out of the nest, has the date of the solo, and is signed by my instructor. I'll try to scan & post it later. As I recall, it was a sunny warm summer day, we had been practicing touch and goes. I remember that I was excited, but not so much that I didn't feel confident, and it went well. I do recall that I was much more excited about it after I had tied the plane down, and went in to the office to pay my bill. Euphoria would be a good way to describe it.

There may still be a glimmer of hope for FS...
FrankFasi replied to fsxkitty's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
It's easy for them to make a statement that sounds good, but does not commit them to do anything beyond making the statement itself. Hope is okay, though, if you don't let the waiting get to you. It might be a long wait... -

Microsoft Flight - Mission Editor - Possible?

No SDK, but maybe an adventurous hacker-type might be able to weigh in. -

I hear it has great water handling characteristics, turning (180 degree) water takeoffs, etc. -
Drat, you beat me to it!

New joy...Flight and Music.
FrankFasi replied to matt_gold's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
On "Learning to Fly", in the middle solo section, the pilot you hear talking to ATC is actually Nick Mason, recorded during one of his actual training flights. He and Gilmour both got their pilot's licenses around the same time. Mason has always been a race car fanatic, so his wanting to learn to fly is not surprising. -
Some info from Mathijs Kok on flights demise.

Ditto. Got my ticket back in '79 -
Is that RA "Bob" Hoover's Shrike in the foreground, or has he finally retired from flying?

173 mph cruise speed! Woohoo! Now we can travel to any point in Alaska in next to no time!

Thumbs up on that. I'm a long-time Floyd fan, even all their early pre-DSOTM stuff. The long track "Saucerful of Secrets" might be a good choice when doing some flying... He had quite a collection of rare planes at one time, including one of those Red Arrows jets (Folland Gnat) and a P-51. His airplane business was called "Intrepid Aviation". -
I still fly FU on occasion. I still enjoy the hoops courses, and working to get good scores flying the aerobatics lessons. But, both FU and FU2 look much better with the old Diamond Monster 4 meg addon graphics card, which I no longer have.

My dad flew B-24's with the 64th squadron, 43rd bomb group, based in New Guinea, late '43 and early '44.

Am I supposed to be seeing this?
FrankFasi replied to jandjfrench's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
I used to see aerobatics boxes floating in the sky when I'd attend the Crater Celebration back in the early 70's. Peace out. -
That second pic doesn't look much like a B-24 to me...Wing looks like it attaches mid-way up the fuselage. B-24 wing should be higher up, not mid-wing. Also, the top turret on a B-24 is a little farther forward. And the shape of the fuselage aft of the wing is wrong... My vote is B-25 for the second pic.

Flight's demise makes me wonder about combat sims
FrankFasi replied to tripecac's topic in Hangar Chat
Don't forget to check out Aces High. It's 14.99 per month but worth it. I've had an account there since open beta in late 1999. I still enjoy it a lot. I think you can play free for two weeks to see if you like it. www.hitechcreations.com -
Do I still buy TrackIR after the demise of Flight?
FrankFasi replied to LHookins's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
Yep. I do MUCH better just keeping my right hand planted on the 10-key pad, and snap view instead of pan. This works for me because I'm a lefty and fly with my left hand. -

FrankFasi replied to LHookins's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
If you can afford it, yes. Flight still works...and is still loads of fun. I use Trackir 5 anytime I fly in Flight, or FSX. And, if I'm playing Rise of Flight I use it. The only war flying sim I don't use it in is Aces High. If my Trackir was destroyed or stolen I'd probably buy another one. -

Is that the one where he had to deal with a dude who was sipping from a bottle of hard liquor on board?
