  1. Since I fly Aces High a lot, I can weigh in on this. What I've noticed in no way makes me like "Flight" less. I love it and will continue to fly it a lot. But, anyone who has flown AH as well as Flight will tell you that the depiction of other players' aircraft in AH is very smooth (maybe even perfect), whereas Flight attains perhaps 75% of that smoothness. I guess the technology that hitechcreations uses for AH to assure that smoothness is proprietary. Too bad that the current state of the art isn't the same for everyone doing multiplayer flying titles. If it can be done everyone should be doing it. I'm not griping, just pointing out what I've noticed.
  2. If your wind correction is too great you will fly off course to the windward side. So the test with a direct crosswind: pick a landmark on the near distant horizon. Line up your aircraft so that the nose of your plane is pointing right at the the landmark. Do not adjust your heading to compensate. You should start to immediately drift off course downwind. It's similar to a rule of thumb used for determining if you're too far away from a landing area when your engine goes out. If your engine dies and after setting up your best glide you notice the intended landing area begins to move out of view below your aircraft--you have more than enough alt to make the field; whereas, if the landing field begins to move up in your field of view--look for a closer field because you probably won't make the field you're heading towards.
  3. I used to attend high school not far from the stadium. Graduated from Radford H.S., right across from Foster Village, which is about a half mile from da kine stadium. Also not far away is Makalapa Navy Housing, bunch of admirals stay up there. They also do not appear to have included the Aloha Tower, down near Hotel and King St., near the water. They did, however, include the Royal Hawaiian and Hilton hotels in Waikiki. The Hilton is the one with a painting of a rainbow up and down the mauka side. The Iliki Hotel is there, too. Which is locale that was often used back in the old original Hawaii Five Oh days for certain scenes. :Peace: They DID include Keehi Lagoon park, aka "Tables". That's very close to PHNL. The Hickam Officers' Golf Course has also been included. I used to work there.
  4. Another vote for the native TrackIR support. "Just do it".
  5. I have a feeling the Maule will be quite useful in Alaska. I went ahead and got it and am glad I did.
  6. Imagine that! Flying an ILS yourself instead of with Otto Pilot. Don't worry, flying ILS without Otto's help is good for you.
  7. 1941 Culver Cadet, Ryan Navion, Globe Swift, Dyke's Delta, ok I'm done. :)
  8. The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind...the answer is blowin' in the wind. :(
  9. I went home and downloaded/installed the latest ASE beta (build 655 I think), and enjoyed a flight where the crappy weather I dialed in stuck around right through touchdown at my destination, and remained crappy as I taxi'd to parking. I think I'll hold off installing AS2012 until I notice via these boards that a corrective update is available fixing the disappearing IMC. At least the huge download is out of the way. :(
  10. I'm hoping AS 2012 isn't the flight sim equivelant of The Eagles' "Let's get back together and make a lot of money" tour. :(
  11. Would be nice to see this problem resolved. I bought AS2012 last night, haven't installed it yet (I also have all the old ones including ASA, ASE, REX 2.0, etc). Reading some of these comments makes me wonder if I want to bother installing it. If I'm flying IFR, and I expect (and plan for) near-minimums visibility and cloud cover at my destination, then that's what I want to see. I'd rather not spend a lot of time scratching my head wondering why the overcast is incomplete, and tweaking weather settings to no avail, when that should be something that is handled seamlessly in the background.
  12. Thanks. Been working on it on and off for a year and a half, trying to wrap it up. It's Stavatti SM-74, a design that borrows ideas from the old Custer Channel Wing. Info:http://www.stavatti.com/SM74_OVERVIEW.html
  13. Will the content of the movie cause me to crash my plane?
  14. Hmm. Perhaps erroneously I've always considered it to be a compliment if one of my planes winds up on some site I've never heard of, and they haven't messed with it being my 'creation'. I'd feel differently if I were good enough at this to be one of the "payware guys", and actually copyrighted my work, and included legalese specifically barring this sort of thing. Then I would be upset. But I'm not.
  15. Hi. I'm working on a plane in FSDS v3.5. I read about using the animation tags "Ambient" and "NonRandomAmbient" to animate pilots and/or passengers. I successfully got one of each to work last night (works quite well). FSDS lists many more (Ambient2, Ambient3, Ambient4, etc) but if I try adding an additional "ambient" animation, to a different passenger, NONE of the ambient or nonrandomambient animations works at all when I go to test it. If I remove the newest animation and test again, everything works. It's as if I'm being limited to one usage of each tag, despite the fact that I can choose from many more unique names (Ambient2, Ambient3, etc.) in my "standard parts names" dialog box.Is there some parameter in some well-hidden configuration file that needs to be tweaked in order to get ALL of available tags working at the same time? Thanks. Here's a screenshot of the plane I'm working on:
  16. Custer Channel Wing. Touchdown speed of less than 30 mph, with a 180 mph cruise speed. VSTOL
  17. Okay! I'll do this tonight when I get home from work. Thanks!
  18. I found the problem (at least in my case). Not sure if this is one of your tweaks, bojote. But I'm not sure how it got there if it isn't. Here's the line, in the SCENERY section:SmallPartRejectRadius=4.0If I remove that one line, everything is fine.
  19. I'll try experimenting by substitution! One note, it is not AI that's affected, rather it's the plane I'm actually flying that disappears while watching it from tower view. Thanks, bojote!
  20. After using Bojote's tweak (via the online utility), I noticed the performance improvements right away. However, in tower view, my planes were disappearing when about a quarter of a mile away. I tried it with smoke turned on--the plane would disappear, but the smoke would continue. If I circled back the plane would re-appear, quite large already when it pops back. I switched back to my backed-up FSX.cfg file and the problem went away immediately. Does anyone have any guesses as to which tweak might cause this to happen? I'd like to selectively edit my tweaked FSX.cfg file so as to keep most of the non-offending tweaks. Thanks in advance. My system: core i7 950, ATI 5700 1g, 4 gig RAM. Win 7 64, FSX Acceleration.
  21. Here's the variable I'm working on. It returns the current heading just fine, but what I'd like is for it to always return the reciprocal heading. For example, if I'm flying a heading of 90, I would like this gauge to show me "270", the reciprocal. Here's my current string from the gauge element in question:%((A:PLANE HEADING DEGREES GYRO,degrees))%!03d!Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
