  1. Anyone noticed how they seem to be adding warbirds present at Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection? Makes sense. The "Flight" crew probably has carte blanche to go take as many pictures as they want, anytime they want, for free (even though Allen does not currently work for Microsoft, or does he?). The guys who fly for FHC might even be evaluating the flight models of these planes. Who knows? Breakfast in America is arguably the best-engineered album in rock history.
  2. I have a Core i7 950, tons of RAM, and a GTX 560 ti, but find I get the best results in Flight by using a max of "High" and not "Maximum" in all of the graphics settings. And the game still looks very good. I'm just wondering if anyone with a similar system runs "maximum" without getting stutters once in a while? I get them if I run "maximum". Perhaps someone out there has come up with some ideal nVidia Inspector settings for Flight?
  3. You might want to quickly come up cold and dark at various different locations, depending on what you want to do. I don't remember enough about batch files to figure this out myself, but I remember you could have a numbered menu in a batch file: 1. Honolulu 2. Lihui 3. Hilo Press the number of the airport you'd like to start from The batch file would then branch to the code to copy the desired folder (corresponding to the number you pressed) of "currensituation" files to the c:\Users\... folder\ In RoboRay's example there would be several folders under d:\Games Backups\MS Flight CurrentSituation\ example: d:\Games Backups\MS Flight CurrentSituation\Hilo d:\Games Backups\MS Flight CurrentSituation\Honolulu d:\Games Backups\MS Flight CurrentSituation\Bellows This may seem like overkill, but it can be done, I just don't remember the batch file code to branch to different code based on a user selection. Been too long.
  4. It was a sideways remark that if I found it exciting to fly over water for four hours, from Hawaii to Alaska, I should be able to get the same amount of excitement by staring at any water for four hours. Not funny, but then I'm good at bad jokes.
  5. When I feel bad about the possibilities I just go down to our local marina and stare at the water for four hours. Same thing.
  6. I might have to get it, myself. Is there a thread describing how to set the eye point back such that it stays put between sessions? Or is it something you quickly tweak everytime you fly it? Just curious.
  7. Okay, I found it. This is the one. I could never get it to run fast enough on the machine I had at the time. And if I tried it now I'm sure I'd be underwhelmed by the graphics:
  8. No, but I remember the one you're talking about. It was a 90's sim. I still have it somewhere. I think the CD case was a bright red. I'll look for it later. It had the best carrier ops ever simulated when it came out. The main simularity is that it was also an F/A-18 sim.
  9. In SWOTL my favorite plane was the GO-229. Man, that thing could really rip up the bombers... Anyone remember "F/A-18 Interceptor" for the Amiga, with the missions off San Francisco?
  10. When you see "two weeks" you should know that's always an old flightsim joke. :) Maybe they're taking a little longer because they're close to having Trackir support finalized.... (wishful thinking, my trackir 5 is waiting patiently)
  11. I had a Maule tailwheel on my biplane that was steerable, but was designed to easily go into "full castering" mode once it turned past a certain point. In full-castering mode I could apply one of the toe brakes and almost literally turn the plane on a dime with the braked wheel as the center of the circle. Then, after releasing the brake the plane would straighten out enough to where the tailwheel would return to steerable mode. I haven't seen any flight sim that models that.
  12. Tri-gear planes should be a lot more forgiving than that. With that much wind you want to pay attention to the positions your elevator and ailerons are in while taxiing, because you want to keep your windward wing down, so as not to get flipped over by a gust. Elevator position is more critical in a taildragger, because you want to keep the tail down for positive tailwheel steering (if so-equipped) and to keep from nosing over. I think neutral elevator in a tri-gear plane might be advisable, since having full up or down elevator in strong winds will just provide a lot of surface area for the wind to push against, perhaps contributing to higher-than-desired taxi speeds, etc. Just my two cents, not sure how accurate.
  13. Yea, wasn't SWOTL fun back in the day? I tried it again, recently, in "dosbox" (or might have been Amiga Forever) and quickly understood why I can never go back to playing those old sims on a regular basis again. But, they were fun during their time.
  14. The thing with ANY product put up for sale: You, Joe Public, have the right to read about what it does, and doesn't do, and then make a decision to either buy it, or not buy it. Personally, I don't think I'll be buying that product. "Flight" is easy enough to use where I do not have a reason to be pulled along by the hand to do things. I'm an experienced simmer. The product may be useful to others, though. They may buy it, and they may like it. And, as soon as that happens, I would be hard pressed to diss it in a public forum. So in advance of that, I will not diss it at all.
  15. I have saved games for sale. Dagger of Amon Ra EAW (European Air War) SWOTL I pay YOU to take them off my hands.
  16. Makes me smile when I see an anti-taildragger post! There's nothing I find more boring in real-life flying than tricycle-gear spam cans.
  17. Looks like interior zinc chromate instead of grass. :)
  18. I used to hike the Koolaus, often staying up at the summit of Keahiakahoe overnight. Yes, the sunsets were spectacular!
  19. Any Flight session you can walk away from is a good Flight session.
  20. All they have to do is add another opening screen with a big map of the Pacific Ocean, where you either click Alaska or Hawaii to move to the map screen we're used to (currently just Hawaii). Add a "Switch Region" button to that screen and you can easily navigate to the various Flight regions when you get tired of the current one. The opening screen might simply be text, something like: Select desired region: Alaska Hawaii Mars
  21. The Aurora I'm finishing for FSX would make for a short hop to Alaska from Hawaii:
