August 20, 201213 yr Was thinking about where to fly FSX.... As a little boy, I remember traveling with my parents, final destination of Brussels. Flew on a prop airliner from Chicago to Iceland to Luxemburg. I don't remember much but a flight stood in my memory because my mom was rather worried and when we got off (and back on) the plane(s). At Iceland, I distinctly remember we walked through a windy, cold snow bizzard exiting the icy plane stairs. Pilot must of landed and taken off in it and it sure sounds nuts today when I think about how bad this storm was. Course I was a kid so all may seem worse. But asking my mother, the airport we briefly landed at (to refuel?) was Reykjavik and she said it was a horrible storm with blinding snow; walking outside through snow drifts to get into the airport. Cold airport inside with tons of tax/duty free items, she noted the wool and cashmere sweaters. On a totally different flight, my mother noted everything went well but that as we arrived to Luxemburg they state the airport terminal was on fire and could not land, so they went to land in Brussels instead. Once they got there, the pilots stated the fog was so dense they could not land, so the flew back to Luxemburg and landed there anyway. Anyway....long story short, I'ld like to recreate this type of flight. Any clue as to what type of plane make/model it most likely was, and it's flight schedule it would of have? Thanks
August 20, 201213 yr Well, seeing as it was a 1970's flight, so there would have been no open skies agreement, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it was probably Pan-Am, TWA or Luxair Operating the flight, but I don't think any of them were still using propliners at that stage, so maybe it was a charter. Do you remember the Airline you used? Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

Does this help figure out the plane make/model/schedule?

Does this help figure out the plane make/model/schedule? I'd say the likelyhood is that you flew with Icelandic Airlines, it was a low cost company and had Luxembourg Airport as one of it's focus cities. Check out their wiki-page: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Loftleiðir I'd say chances are you flew on a Douglas DC-6 or a Canadair CL-44. As regards the timetable, you could probably buy an old on somewhere on ebay... PMDG should be releasing their DC-6 soon enough so you should be able to use that to re-create your flight... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/361760-secret-project-1-this-one-is-a-classic/ Hope this helps, Ró. August 20, 201213 yr Author Yes, this helps a lot, thanks. I forgot to mention that it was more around 1969 or1970. Definitely not past 1972 cause that is when my parents moved to USA.

While the 1970s seems so far away, things haven't changed THAT much, as you pretty much described my experience of landing on a 737-300 in January at Green Bay a mere 15 years ago, complete with air stairs (I don't know why, I'm pretty sure they had proper gates back then, I don't remember the air stairs being a necessity when leaving green bay a few weeks later).

I was wondering if it could have been a turboprop--an Electra. Or a DC-7 if a piston prop. I don't know if the airline in question flew either aircraft. My own first flight, in 1966, was on an Electra and was a very short flight between the SF Bay Area and Burbank. Regards, John
August 21, 201213 yr I recall my first flight was a B747-100 DUB -> SNN... Managed to get a jumpseat on the flight deck for landing, think I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time ^_^ Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

August 21, 201213 yr Had you already decided to become a pilot then? Bruno Nope, I didn't decide to become a pilot until I was accepted into the Aer Lingus Cadet program at the age of 23, I was an engineer before that for about a year and a half... Though of course, as any child is/was, I was always fascinated by airplanes.... Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
