August 22, 201213 yr http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/493510-ryanair-overheats-passengers-eindhoven-airport.html Unfair on FR/the captain without knowing all facts, or a fair pasting?
August 22, 201213 yr Without knowing all of the facts it sounds like on of those days where it all went a bit wrong! 35'C fr 45 minutes with lots of people won't do anyone good and having all that heat/anger in one spam can is something I'd like to avoid. Seems like the skipper was following Ryanair procedure though with regard to boarding? Don't know enough to say for sure though. I guess it comes down to how Ryanair run their ship! Interesting to hear the other guys takes on this though! I'll have to have a read of the report! The only time I've had a situation like this was at Gibraltar with an inop APU on an A320, cabin got very hot very quick and we boarded as quick as possible and started with carts, couldn't get the packs fired up till we were started though! If there were any hint of delays we were told not to board..interesting this happened! Regards. Rgds - Sam Harridann
August 22, 201213 yr While I think that the Captain was very much at fault here, I also think a lot of blame can be apportioned to Ryanair's Corporate and Safety culture, and I'm not just saying that as an EIN pilot. If you havn't heard the interview with Captain Evan Cullen of IALPA on RTE radio last week about safety and the culture of fear in Ryanair it's worth a listen... http://www.rte.ie/ne...nair-spain.html Also interesting is how the Captain in this case below, ignored the fact that she hit and damaged another aircraft, didn't tell that aircraft and then proceeded herself to take-off with a damaged winglet. That really says something about the safety and corporate culture of the company, like this incident... http://avherald.com/...=45363621&opt=0 For dramatic effect, have a pic of the incident: APU's do occasionally go inop, it's no big deal, you get a ground A/C cart, if there's none available, then start the number 2 engine or else get some stairs put in place and open all the doors and windows. With temperatures of 38C outside, and doors closed with a full load (I'd say over full, 738's aren't supposed to hold 189 people in sardine class, but I digress), temperatures could easily have reached 45-50C if the plane was in the sun, which, in the middle of the ramp, as they don't seem to believe in airbridges, the RYR aircraft likely was. Temperatures like that can kill children and the elderly if they're not hydrated, and seeing as they can't bring water through security, and RYR don't provide free water in cases like this, people could have very likely been killed. The captain is not fit to make command choices and decisions, and should be either demoted to FO, or fired. Though as it's Ryanair, if he had started the engine to keep the PAX cool, he likely would have been demoted or fired for that by management. Lessons learnt are very simple, don't fly Ryanair, pay the extra €10-€15 euros and be treated like a human. *Ryanair rant over. Regards, Ró Rónán O Cadhain.
