September 1, 201213 yr Author White Trash: 1.) old gas.. separated Tetraethyl lead deposits. 2.) any tank liner or repair substance. Only a guess, but am very interested in what you find out. That's actually what we were thinking today, as a collective brain trust of know-it-all pilots. All conjecture, but interesting none the less. The tanks aren't bladders, and no repairs have been made (as far as I can see) in the mx logs. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
September 1, 201213 yr and no repairs have been made Ah... a waking nightmare of a leaking Mooney I once worked on. The goop inside those tanks was red. Planes sitting and not flying are big problem / cause of maintenance woes. They really should be run every couple days and not just "run-up" but getting up to operating temps and running for a short bit. Wouldn't be surprised a bit if it was the gas breaking down. It did sit before it's pre-buy two years ago. Dang... the only thing I let go more than 6 mos w/o some sort of gas stabilizer is like say a lawnmower I don't care to run again. It reminds me of a deposit found in most shower heads that aren't cleaned too often. Bummer! Time for some CLR (the shower cleaner) and a water pik.
September 1, 201213 yr Author Lol. Our mx guy (he's as nice as they come) was very tempted to bolt the carburetor back on. Currently he's working on making sure there's no junk in the tanks, lines, and strainers. It's a bummer the plane has to be off the line for so long, but after it betrayed me (and brought the pucker factor to 10+) the other day I think it could use a time-out. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
September 1, 201213 yr Planes sitting and not flying are big problem / cause of maintenance woes Indeed... the very worse thing to do to any engine, is not run it. Anything sitting around is under attack from the atmosphere (even indoors), and the motors own fluids.
