FSX CTD at the Free Flight Screen

Featured Replies

Well from high's to lows. I just got DX10 working nicely and all of a sudden the next day I started FSX and get an fatal error on start up. Initially I was getting the "FSX process not found. FSX handle: 0" which I know is related to EzDok. Over the past few days all I have changed is adding DX10 Shader Fixes V3.0.0 and updating FSDreamteams Coatl as prompted by FSX. In trying to chase this down I have done the following (any deletions with backup of original):

- deleted the CFG

- deleted the EXE.xml

- deleted the dll.xml

- Run the Simconnect.msi

- Run the Flight1 FSX registry

- Deleted and reinstalled Ezdok

- Reinstalled general installer from FSDT

The only thing that has changed is now is just getting "A fatal error has occurred...." a few seconds after the main free flight screen comes up.

Any ideas? Could it be V3.0 shaders? If not I don't want to hijack this thread so will move this to the main FSX forum.

thanks

Problem Temporarily Resolved !!! I carefully went through the FSX.cfg and found in the trusted software 3 or 4 instances of the FSDT Coatl inserted with different keys. I removed all but one and voila it works again

Spoke too soon - Problem is back. Have tried all kinds of things but getting fatal error at the free flight screen and cannot progress further. Anyone have an idea on how to fix.

Hi Mark,

Not you too! LOL! Hopefully we can find a solution. Have you looked in your Event Viewer to see what the faulting module is that caused the crash. This provides a valuable clue as to the fault. When Event Viewer is open, look under Windows Logs\Application. If you have your Event Viewer set up in three columns, the Events will be in the center column. On the right column you'll have the option to copy the details of the event. Then you can paste the event in a new post here.

I seriously doubt it is Steve's DX10 shader program. The ENB Series shader mod is a common source of crashes as some versions are not compatible with FSX OR Windows 7. Removing those trusted lines in the Trusted section of the FSX.cfg should not have fixed your problem but renaming your FSX.cfg and restarting FSX so the config can rebuild fixes a whole lot of problems.

Best regards,

Jim

I will take a look but I think it is already there.

The problem is right when it go to execute the flight. With DisablePreLoad I can get to a turning plane and then select a new flight etc. but as soon as I hit FlyNow the screen switches to the windowed mode and shows the little box to load the flight and it immediately freezes, goes white and I get the message "A fatal error has occured"

Mark,

I see nothing in the additional report you provided above other than the FSCoPilot.dll module which has caused crashes for some in connection with FSInn. But according to the report, visualfx.dll caused the crash. Memory exception code 0000005 indicates you had a Memory_Access_Violation. So, the way I understand it, when visualfx.dll was being called by FSX, it could not find something that was required to perform a function and crashed. You said earlier that you installed Steve's DX10 Shader fix. Does the crash occur if DX10 Preview is not enabled? Are you using the Addon_Converter X to convert FS9 textures to be compatible with FSX and DX10? My Googling indicates many have had this problem if they moved or accidentally moved a texture folder. Did you delete the shader10 folder in AppData\local\FSX\Shaders after installing the DX10 Shader Fix?

Best regards,

Jim

Jim, thanks for commenting on this issue.

The crash occurs with DX10 checked or unchecked. I am not using Addon_Converter X and as far as I am aware I have not moved a texture folder. The Shader10 folder is in place.

The Shader10 folder is in place.

Okay, just covering all the possibilities. Regarding the Shader10 folder in your User\AppData\Microsoft\FSX folder, it was suppose to be deleted once you installed Steve's DX10 fix. Will continue to look for a fix.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

After a nice long telephone conversation today with Paul, it was concluded that a reinstall was my only option. Thanks for taking the time to help me out with this, I will let you know once I am fully back up and running.

Hi Mark,

I was thinking that would be the ultimate solution. Ugh! Good luck on the reinstall!

Best regards,

Jim

Ugh! is right, but on the bright side I will get to clean out a large collection of stuff I have loaded over the past few years that I really never use.
