Hey guys

 

A few weeks ago I bought a new rig to be able to run FSX smoothly. The system (i7 3770k 3.5GHz, 16GB RAM, EVGA GTX680 2GB, Samsung SSD for W7 64bit and aWD Caviar black for FSX) is ok but I remarked some strange terrain problems (see screenshots below). Last time I had this problem I was able to fix it by deleting the FSX.cfg and let the system renew one. But then I had to add my tweaks (like HIGHMEMFIX and LOD_RADIUS) and accept all the gauges again which was rather annoying.

 

At the moment I have the following addons installed: FSXacc, MyTraffic 2013, UTX Europe, UTX USA, UTX Canada, GEX Europe, GEX North America, GEX Africa/Middle East, GEX Tropics, Switzerland Professional, Wilco Airbus Evolution, QW ARJ and of course some airport sceneries.

 

Maybe I should mention that I remarked strange terrain behaviour when I last flew to EKCH. The ocean was full of land tiles. I could fix this by doing a change in the UTX setting and let the FSX refresh it's scenery database.

 

 

 

 

When I set an altitude of for example FL300, everyhing looks fine.

Start up the UTX program configurator for the country where you have the anomalies. If the pictures are from the USA, then open up UTX USA. Let it load, then close. This should fix your problem regarding terrain over the water.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I know this, that's the way I was able to fix the problem on the EKCH flight. But that's not the problem I have now (see the screenshots). It's kind of a terrain mess.

I noticed that your FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION is set to 0.1. In combination with the LOD_RADIUS setting of 6.5, this might be too low. Try changing the setting to 0.13. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it didn't help. The only change I noticed was that the frames dropped to 23

In regards to the fiber_frame_time_fraction 'tweak' the following link may be of value - http://blogs.msdn.co...f-the-week.aspx. It's straight from the FSX developer's mouth. Only works with single core CPU's. Not required for multi-core CPU's and ineffective after FSX SP2/Acceleration was released.

 

You have two Texture_Bandwidth_Mult in you Display setting. Raise your water effects to 5.

I don't know why but with fiber_frame... set to 0.1, I get much better fps.

 

I let the sim configure a new fsx.cfg and the following configuration works, aparat from the tearing, perfectly fine. Now I just have to sort out the wrongdoer:

Again - Jim - I'm really sorry :( - Adam Szofran - quoted by Phil from 2007, and quotes from that time are of historical interest only - they are becoming meaningless when applied in 2012. They did not have the hardware we use today, and I will guarantee that the sim will respond to a change from the .33 default down to .1.

Well I had an individual with a CTD up in the CTD Forum with a similar setting yesterday and he changed it to the default .33 and now no more crashes (so far). Go figure! FSX is still a 2006/2007 game. The coding has not changed. When FSX first came out there were a lot of arguments over this setting (now in 2012 they continue... ha!). I don't like the Affinity Mask "tweak" either. This morning I saved my old FSX.cfg, deleted it, and restarted FSX and let it rebuild. I wanted to see what the default settings Microsoft was giving me. In every category it was giving me Ultra High settings in every category (that doesn't mean all the sliders are maxed). I have no tweaks and the FPS Limiter Microsoft set was 20. That was working great because around the payware Vancouver I was getting a lot of stuttering when looking at the buildings and the frame rate was plunging down near the single digits. With the new FSX config, it remained at 19 and 20 throughout the flight and things were a little smoother. No tweaks (not even the highmemfix=1 'tweak). I did move the slider up to 30 but saw the max framerate I was getting was around 24. So I set the FPS to 25. It works great. The OP should look at doing this too. It provides a breath of fresh air to the sim. I consider you as the expert on this subject though. I'm just saying my FSX in DX10 mode is working great right now!

DX10 is where it's at, Man!! Yeah - Jim - we agree on most all of the settings except swapfile and this, by the looks of it - but - hey, if we were all the same..... etc..., :LMAO: We're both on the same team. :drinks:

You'll notice, though - I leave all the hard ones for you!! .... oops!... :Liar:

 

It wouldn't surprise me if the odd hidden character got added into the fsx.cfg from time-to-time, and that's why I think a fresh one every now and then, is good. I must try a default cfg...... one of these days! :nea:

Seriously - I cannot believe the settings we can use, and the "solid" feel it gives, Jim. It's a smooth as silk, and it will take settings which would leave DX9 on the floor gasping for breath. This is a changed sim.

Mine are solid and smooth as silk too. I was looking at some of your pictures over in the DX10 forum and they got me excited to see what my fsx settings could do. That is when I discovered all the jerking and stuttering in a heavy area like payware Vancouver. That's why I decided to dump my old fsx.cfg and build a new one without tweaks. So far so good. So don't listen to me. I'm one of those happy campers w/o tweaks.... You do have some excellent pictures showing off DX10. If I get time I'll show some of mine.

I had the same problem. Pretty comparable system.. I7 3770k, 3.5GHz 16GB ram, nvidia gtx670. Win 7 64 bit.. Running FSX dx9. Noticed the problem occurred when running as2012 and near large bodies of water and not country specific as it happened in countries that I do and don't have utx installed. Also noticed that the graphics problem cleared up at around 8000 ft. agl.<br /><br />-Damien<br />

Looks like artifacts due to usepools=0. At least thats how the artifacts look on my system when I'm not using the internal frame rate limiter (the exact tweak to get rid of the artifacts vary from system to system, some people like to set Water=High X2, some use internal limiter etc)
