Default UK scenery?

Featured Replies

Hi

Are there any screenshots of the default UK scenery in XP10?

Or could some kind soul post some?

I've got XP9 and rarely used it as the scenery didn't cut it, but seriousl;y considering 10 and see the scenery as the biggest difference...

Thanks

Keith

Keith, I am far from home right now, but as soon as possible, later today, I 'll try to get a few.

Please name a few airfileds / places you would like me to get it from.

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

The coastlines are better as is the scenery overall. Auto generated buildings and roads are US-style but if you can ignore that overall it's pretty reasonable. To my eyes better than the default FS scenery. Sorry can't post screen shots as I'm on a train. :)

Thanks JComm.

Perhaps Central London (which presumably isnt total Autogen?) and Snowdonia?

And Shoreham airfiel, or any smaller field.

I understand there are only a few really detailed airfields, and none in the UK, but there are a number downloadable.

EDIT: Found a good list of downloadable airfields with pix at http://www.opensceneryx.com/blog/scenery-packages-using-opensceneryx/

So don't worry about shoreham.

Cheers

I won't lie... scenery overall is very generic, and as stated, architecturally American. The road layouts are there, but you're going to see the sort of cheap tract housing that exists in generic American suburbia. Not a whole lot of unique buildings that indicate you're in one specific location or another. I'm enjoying the sim and can overlook these things, but I don't see a point in spinning it in such a way that says "You'll love it!" without addressing a few caveats. It's all about what you're expecting. In terms of simulating aerodynamics, the sim is top notch. 3rd party scenery is available to make things look more realistic. Aircraft are available to keep you busy flying. OSM2XP is available to help populate areas (those that have noteworthy coverage in Open Streetmap, at least.) with generic buildings representing real-world counterparts. Many locations in Europe, including the whole of France, the city of Amsterdam, cities in Germany, and many others have a LOT of coverage, and you'll be able to make cities look more like cities if you study up on Open Streetmap and what it can provide X-Plane.

Now, that said, X-Plane's terrain textures are really nice, and there is some land class applied. You'll see farmlands, meadows, forests, deserts, etc., and all look really good. I'm willing to bet there's even more diversity in ground cover than is available in FSX. Plus, the aforementioned roads. FSX requires Ultimate Terrain, while X-Plane comes with all of them by default. And those generic houses do line residential streets, so it is, indeed, plausible. Just not exactly real-world without a little help from third party add-ons. On the plus side, nighttime looks AMAZING. All those roads have street lighting, and if you can handle HDR lighting and a little road traffic AI, you'll see cars with head and tail lights that actually light the ground and objects they shine on. Streetlights also shine down on and light up cars and trucks as they pass by. Water reflections of area lighting looks fantastic as well.

EDIT- Forgot to mention that houses aren't the only buildings. Commercial landclass areas have generic industrial and warehouse type buildings. There's also random autogen that, while providing something visual to see on the ground, can show up in strange locations. 10 storey office buildings in the middle of residential neighborhoods, for example.

Well Keith, London is not defualt, but rather default + OSM, but free! Took 3 screens at about 10nm from London City airport.

Snowdonia - didn't know about it ... sorry... I hope I got what you expected :-)

So, first the London City screens...

Snowdonia (???)

Lisbon, approaching 35...

Plausible? Yes!

Exact? No! Look at the "Golden-Gate like" bridge and how ir should look...

Do I care? Not at all!...

Thats great thanks.

Snowdonia looks fine, and London looks like a big city...just not London!

From researches so far it seems France is the country best servered by freeware developers.

The XPFR Robin works fine in the demo, will try their scenery in XP9.

Then I've just got something I want to do in in FSX, and XP10 should be next on the list.

Cheers

Keith
