September 14, 201213 yr Today Nvidia released the rest of their product lineup. This includes the GTX660 and GTX650. ARTICLE Quoted from the PCMAG Article: "The GTX 660, which Nvidia estimates will be available for about $229 list, uses 960 CUDA parallel processing cores and 80 texture units, and a 980MHz base clock that can boost to an average of 1,033MHz. The card is loaded with 2GB of GDDR5 RAM that runs over a 192-bit memory interface and, like the other 600-series cards, has a memory clock of 6,008MHz."
September 14, 201213 yr They did an outstanding job in my opinion with this lineup. Can't wait to see the next. Randy Swofford
September 14, 201213 yr Author I completely agree Randy. The Kepler series has been one of the best card series I have ever seen. The performance is outstanding and the prices are very reasonable. - I can play BF3 maxed on mid-range card... Very impressive stuff. :Nerd:
September 14, 201213 yr My 670 is by far the best card I've had in a very long time. Power consumption and temps are crazy low even with an aggressive overclock. Can just get better with more mature drivers. Randy Swofford
September 15, 201213 yr GK106 and GK104 (GTX660-GTX680) are no doubt great performing chips. Especially given that GK104 was designed as a 'budget' card like the 460 and the 560ti but is now selling for way higher prices in absence of 'Big Kepler' and better competition from AMD. But I don't blame them. You always charge what you can get away with, and as they are such good performers... I do however expect these chips to be able to drop a lot in price over the next year if they have to. This has had an effect on the lower side of the price bracket, the sub $200 GPUs. Not much has happened here over the last few years when it comes to performance. The GK107 (GTX650) sips power and that is perfect for laptops but not as important to a desktop. It still uses a 6pin PCIe connector so it's no good for computers without one either.
September 15, 201213 yr Author the sub $200 GPUs. Not much has happened here over the last few years when it comes to performance. Typically only a 5-7% increase every generation... It's mainly just power savings and quieter for mobile and less intense users.
September 15, 201213 yr NVIDIA decided to brand the GK104 chip as GTX 660/660 Ti/670/680 because AMD hasn't offered competitive performance with this generation. I wonder when we will see the big chip (GK100) because it should be a big performer.
September 15, 201213 yr Author I wonder when we will see the big chip (GK100) because it should be a big performer. They might tweak it and wait to unleash it for the next generation in late 2013 or 2014.
September 15, 201213 yr They might tweak it and wait to unleash it for the next generation in late 2013 or 2014. Would be nice to have it as a refresh for the next generation. The "big chips" tend to consume lots of power and produce more heat.
