September 18, 201213 yr Question : Should i go with the I7 3770K or 2700K ? Corsair HX 1050 or HX 850 W PSU? Go for the 3770K if you want less OC performance but overall better performance clock for clock. 3770K at 4.6 = 2700K at 4.8 Do not waste your money on the 1050W PSU. - Unless you are doing 4 GTX680s, 850watts with be plenty of power... 2X WD Velocirapto 250GB 10K RPM Honestly, go for some SSDs instead... They have dropped in price and they are approaching 50 cents a gigabyte. Something like a Crucial M4 256GB.
September 18, 201213 yr I'm no expert but this is my Z77 build still on the bench... I should be able to complete it next weekend... I have the OS loaded and everything seems to be working well... I still need to get the wires under control and the box put together in a finished state... ============================================================ SANDY BRIDGE Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623i72700K GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Noctua NH-C12P SE14 140mm SSO CPU Cooler PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready Power Supply (2) SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit ============================================================ Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply guys ! If i were to go with ssds what speeds should I Be looking at ?
September 18, 201213 yr I chose these just based on almost 100% 5 star ratings with many reviewers on New Egg... $200.00 pop... One has my OS the other will have MSFS... (2) SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Best of luck... Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr Author Very good I will look into those drives . But my understanding is that there is no gain in FSX with ssds ? Correct or ?
September 18, 201213 yr Yeah - minimal performance boost from what I've read... Some benefit when FSX is loading another chunk of scenery... I really bought them for the load times on initial program startups... The machine boots very fast and hopefully MSFS will start up very fast once I get it loaded... Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr Author Scott, Thanks for the help I went ahead and ordered the samsung ssd. Should have the all components tomorrow , my plan is to de- lid the I7 and lap both the water block and ihs. I will start a write up once I get organized . Again thank you!
September 18, 201213 yr Based on your original spec of WD 10,000 RPM mechanical drives - I would see no reason not to use SSD's - no moving parts... Best of luck... Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Get faster RAM. It is much cheaper these days... Something like GSkill DDR3 2133 CL9.
September 18, 201213 yr Oh - one other thought - I looked at the Corsair H-100 as well - but - my case didn't have the adjacent dual 120mm fan ports... You need them to mount the radiator... Thanks Ben - I'll take a look... Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Go for the GTX660Ti. - This card is about 15-25% faster than the 570 and, runs cooler and quieter. I looked at the Corsair H-100 as well You might want to take a look at the Corsair H70 or H80. - You only need a 120MM fan mount to mount the rad in your case.
September 18, 201213 yr Hi Ben - too late for me - my purchases are already made and I'm building mine... I had seem some hardware comparisons and the Noctua air coolers seemed to be just as good if not better than the Corsair liquid coolers - while they are supposed to be quieter... The review was for the double radiator Noctua though and I wound up going with the single radiator as I was concerned with the size of the bigger unit... I'm far from a pro on OC's - my previous build was a Conroe 3.0 I wound up running at 3.5 on air... Nothing crazy... Regards, Scott
September 18, 201213 yr I'm far from a pro on OC's Trust me... OCing on the SandyBridge platform is very easy. If you have any troubles, we would be more than happy to give you a hand in the forum.
September 18, 201213 yr Hi Ben - really appreciate that - I'd be lost without places like this... Have a good day !!! Regards, Scott
