Usually if you can't hear voices, make sure your speakers are setup properly. Sometimes people have their speakers enabled in the audio control panel that aren't even physically connected to their computers.

So what was the solution?

hold the left click mouse on the volume knob and then right click it and it will turn.

 

problem I was not able to turn the knobs with the mouse. Talk about quick replies lol! good stuff
