C-46 (and STEAM)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

How did you guys obtain the C-46?

I made the mistake of purchasing it from STEAM and now find that I am prevented from downloading it unless I first reinstall Microsoft Flight via STEAM and, it would appear, repurchase all the aircraft and the Alaskan Wilderness from the STEAM Store! I've added the Flight shortcut as a non-STEAM product to my account and this has enabled some features, but not the association of DLC such as the C-46 with Flight.

STEAM are refusing a requested refund and instead are offering a Store Credit against any future purchases. I have been a member of STEAM for many years and have several games installed and supported and have never purchased any addons nor am I likely to in the future. I was not expecting any ongoing support for the C-46. I just wanted to be able to download my purchase and install it into Flight.

I have reached an impasse with STEAM customer support and currently they are hiding behind a clause in their Customer Subscriber Agreement:

"IF YOU ARE AN EU SUBSCRIBER YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM A PURCHASE TRANSACTION FOR DIGITAL CONTENT WITHOUT CHARGE AND WITHOUT GIVING ANY REASON UNTIL DELIVERY OF SUCH CONTENT HAS STARTED OR PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE HAS COMMENCED. YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM A TRANSACTION OR OBTAIN A REFUND ONCE DELIVERY OF THE CONTENT HAS STARTED OR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE HAS COMMENCED, AT WHICH POINT YOUR TRANSACTION IS FINAL. YOU AGREE THAT DELIVERY OF DIGITAL CONTENT, AND THE ASSOCIATED SUBSCRIPTION, AND/OR PERFORMANCE OF THE ASSOCIATED SERVICE, COMMENCES AT THE MOMENT THE DIGITAL CONTENT IS ADDED TO YOUR ACCOUNT OR INVENTORY OR OTHERWISE MADE ACCESSIBLE TO YOU FOR DOWNLOAD OR USE."

Yesterday I responded thus:

'While the DLC appears to be associated with my account I am being prevented from accessing it. This fact alone demonstrates non-delivery of digital content. Therefore STEAM is in breach of it's Subscriber Agreement. It really couldn't be clearer. If you can provide me with access to my purchase then there would be no problem but, as things stand, STEAM are blocking me from downloading the C-46 by first forcing an unnecessary reinstall of Microsoft Flight. This would necessarily mean I would have to repurchase and reinstall the various aircraft and scenery enhancements already purchased via the Microsoft LIVE Marketplace.'

Am I missing something? Am I indeed correct?

Sorry to dump this on you guys. I know it's only a small amount and normally wouldn't be worth the bother, but their unhelpful stance has hardened my attitude towards yet another large organisation that thinks it can ride rough shod over it's clients. I feel right is on my side and therefore should argue this point of principle to exhaustion rather than meekly roll over and accept what may be the inevitable.

Your opinions would be most welcome.

Thank you.

Mike

I'm not sure what to tell you in this case. My suggestion would be to pose this question on the Steam MS Flight forum I think someone there has run into this issue as well and can offer some advice. There have been a number of posts here regarding moving from Windows Live to Steam with Flight, and vice-versa. Try a search and you might have some luck getting the answer.

Thank you.

Rick

Well, I don't recall exactly the steps to follow, but you don't have to actually install MS FLIGHT from Steam.

When logged in to you account, click to install the base package of FLIGHT and then, as soon it starts, cancel it.

The DLC will be listed from there on, as well as the associated redem code, in your list of MS FLIGHT products, and you can then use that code from within MS FLIGHT WL menu to install.

Hope this helps.... it's been a couple of months since I last installed anything for MS FLIGHT...

Hi jcomm,

I must be doing something wrong. I tried your suggestion and as soon as the download started the 'Cancel' option was replaced with 'Finish'. The entry appeared under my games list and all I could then do was 'Pause' the download. Deletion of the local content merely removed the entry and I was back to square one :(

Thanks anyway. It was certainly worth a shot.

Regards,

Mike

Hi jcomm,

Looks like all I had to do was 'Pause' the download and that allowed me to access the 'View CD Key' option on right-clicking the 'Microsoft Flight' entry. I then started Flight, logged onto GFWL, selected 'Redeem code' and Bob's your uncle! Lastly I deleted the 'local content' downloaded by STEAM and the 'Microsoft Flight' entry was gone.

I've checked my hanger and there she sits :)

Many thanks!

Cheers!

Mike

Glad you got it worked out, Mike. Jcomm, thanks for helping.

Thank you.
