September 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member Ahh, my mistake. I stand corrected (actually, I'm sitting, but you get the idea). Sorry  . No prob. It was a good explanation of one of the reasons why the rule is there. Kyle Rodgers
September 25, 201213 yr I am passing though too...agree with Kyle & Rob on this one....just a few comments with regard to 250 BLW FL100. If you are landing at a high altitude APRT clearly you are going to have to 'shift' your 'energy gates' further back up the approach...especially if you are in a high density altitude situation...slow down or go down...but not both together. If you are an ATCO & your airspace tactical situation at the time allows (& perhaps that in the next sector also allows)...I suspect that you are going to clear departing aircraft high speed...notwithstanding specific rules pertinent to your sector...you get them on their way quickly & de-clutter your 3 dimensional airspace creating more processing power inside you personal super computer (brain) ECON SPD is named as such on the CLB/VNAV CLB Page of your Boeing CDU for EXACTLY that reason...it will invariably be above 250kts & will result in your aircraft burning the LEAST amount of fuel possible for the climb. Not exceeding 250 BLW FL100 by default is without doubt one of the biggest FS'isms in the FS world. YT is littered with videos of various FS aircraft hitting 250kts at full climb thrust & then standing on their tails...trying to maintain that 250kts by flying 'speed on elevator' & because the 'pilot' 'believes' he must never exceed 250 kts below 10000ft the VSI buries itself at the top of the instrument & the 'pilot' gets seriously behind the aircraft very quickly...becoming one of the passengers. Live a little 'dangerously'...if the tactical situation around you permits...ALWAYS ask ATC (if you fly online) for high speed - he/she can only say NO! Its hit & miss...some controllers actually get it & release you...others don't & it gets ridiculous as you select CLB 2 in a very quiet sector...every flight is different. If you are on UNICOM & the same tactical situation permits...clear yourself...your acceleration & climb segements will be smooth...you will consume less fuel...& you will be into the CRZ regime more quickly & ecconomically. SPD INTV is a wonderful tool...it gets you accelerating...keeps you 'heads up/out' & buys you the time to sort out the CDU at your convenience. Just some thoughts. 3, 2, 1 - Flames of righteous indignation....ON...I'm orf to mow the lawn! Steve Bell "Wise men talk because they have something to say. September 26, 201213 yr Kyle, You are right, thank you for the correction, that is what I meant to say, 200K under Class B. Regards, Ionut "John" Micu
September 26, 201213 yr Lights can be SOP's, I don't touch the seatbelt signs until 18,000 feet and that's when I turn off the logo and turnoff lights. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
